_________________________________ Tuberose was so happy that Sydney went along with his idea. It was a sad thought, but Tuberose knew that most of the other kids his age would have just snarled some rude reply back and turned away from him. He couldn't really understand what was so strange about building tents and whatnot, but apparently it just wasn't something that teenagers do, whatever the hell that meant. Smiling as Sydney left the room, Tuberose sat up on his knees and began to bounce sway with anticipation. This was going to be so fun! To tell the truth, Tuberose had never really made a tent before. He had always heard about other families doing it, but it had just never been something his had done when the kids had been little. Bry, Tuberose's brother, hadn't been able to do anything like that. At the age of three Bryony had been diagnosed with PDDNOS, or pervasive development disorder that wasn't quite autism but wasn't normal development. That basically meant that he wasn't able to think like the other kids his age, and that the world he lived in was much different than the world around him. Growing up Tuberose had been forced to be very careful around his brother to make sure that nothing scared or upset the young child. There had been some things, such as sheet tent making, that Tuberose had wanted to do with his brother, but had been to worried to actually go through with it. No one knew what would have set Bry off, and changing his 'world' like that could have effected him somehow.
Tuberose was glad that he'd be able to make a legendary linen tent now! Smiling, Tuberose waited as patient as he could for Sydney. Which means that he was extremely tempted to chase after her, considering that Tuberose isn't very patient at all. Tuberose laughed when Syd finally came back, nearly buried under a pile of pillows and sheets. It looked like she was trying to handle a stack double her size, and as Sydney nudged him Tuberose shot up to stand next to her. "I was born ready," he said in a faux-menacing fashion before grabbing half of the stack in his own arms. Unfolding one of the sheets Tuberose ran up to where Sydney had started building their tent and started draping it generously around the area. Three blankets down and the tent was almost ready. Sure, it might have look like a mess on the side that Tuberose had built, but that didn't matter to him. And if it did to Sydney, well then she was in the wrong company. Fun was fun and there was no way around that, Tuberose thought happily.
Smiling at their creation, Tuberose listened to Sydney. "Well of course you like it! Who doesn't like making indoor tents during the middle of the day while we could be doing normal teen-aged things like. . ." Tuberose stopped, a finger poised in thought close to his mouth. What did normal teenagers do for fun? Well, it seemed more and more these days all they did was have sex and do drugs. Tuberose wasn't against people who did those things, but he knew that he'd much rather be making tents with Syd. It seemed a lot more fun to him. It was funny how much the kids his age were messed up. Sure, Tuberose had tons of faults and was a little on the creepy side, but at least he didn't go around sleeping with anything that moved like some of the other teens he knew. It was almost sad. . . Of course Tuberose didn't really contemplate these thoughts too deep or for too long, because as soon as he forgot his train of thought he was crawling into the tent beside Sydney. Making his way into the space opposite from Sydney Tuberose laid down on his back, his feet sticking out from the little tent they had made. "We should totally roast marshmallows in here," Tuberose said half-heartedly as he looked up at the ceiling of the tent. It had already started to sag a little in the middle but that was okay. "But I guess that's a safety hazard, isn't it? And I don't even like marshmallows. . . It just seems like something you'd do in a tent. Except we're in a sheet tent, so I guess you'd roast like cotton balls, or something like that. Have you ever wondered what a cotton ball tastes like? Well, it's not very good. For the most part it just sorta gets stuck in your throat and it makes you gag. It's not very pleasant so I wouldn't advise roasting and/or eating cotton balls anytime soon. And I'm really starting to ramble now so I'm just going to shut up." Tuberose gave a goofy smile before looking back at Sydney, all thoughts of marshmallows and cotton balls forgotten. "So what do youuu want to talk about?" He asked curiously, waggling his eyebrows at Sydney. She was an interesting person so Tuberose guessed she must have something cool to talk about. After all, he hadn't been bored once in her company yet so that meant that things were going absolutely great! Happy with himself and Sydney, Tuberose waited while he tossed a pillow into the air repeatedly in some sort of strange entertainment. _________________________________notes ||seriously. never eat a cotton ball. tags ||Sydney Clarke word count || eight nine seven outfit ||clickitifyoudarelyrics ||graffiti 6-stare into the sun

sydney was happy to see his exciting face as he jumped up to help her. with the work the both of them were doing had to tent finished in no time. building it was much more fun than she had expected and now they would be able to sit and enjoy the work they had completed. sydney was glad that she had snacks hidden so they would be able to munch of them while they were in the tent. though she was going to wait a bit before she got anymore sugar into him. he was still recovering from the juice boxes that she had given him earlier and she wasn't going to risk getting him sugar high.
when he mentioned roasting marshmallow sydney instantly got images of sitting around a big fire. that looked so much more interesting then starting a fire in the middle of her room which would probably get them both killed somehow. but if they did survive they were going to have to explain how they ended up burning the house down. maybe if we go camping we can roast marshmallows sydney told tuberose with a small grin. she had never been camping but she thought it would be rather fun. her father was always too busy with his cases to take them anywhere. oh, and her mother wouldn't be able to survive out of the house away from civilization. they believed that studying was much better use of their time instead of silly things like camping. she almost went camping on a class trip once but got sick right before and had to stay home. ever since then she was hoping to make up for that but just didn't come across the opportunity until now. living in a small little tent and making your own food over a fire just sounded so interesting. and there would be so many things that they would be able to do and see. she could also do some painting of all the things that they saw while they were there. maybe they really could go camping together. of course sydney would have to tell her parents she was on some type of educational retreat with a group of girls because if they knew the truth they wouldn't let her leave the house. but who better to go with then tuberose? he would make everything much more interesting then it should be. and they could invite a few of their friends and make it a fun group trip. sydney was going through all this in her mind before she even heard him give her an answer about camping. she would be truly disappointed if he didn't want to go. she still had the rest of her life to go so maybe she could go when she was in college.
she listened quietly as he explained that she shouldn't eat cotton balls and why. sydney had never considered trying them before but at least now she knew what would happen if she did. even though most people wouldn't take this conversation very seriously sydney always thought tuberose had something interesting to say or talk about. it seemed as though he tried much more than she had even thought of trying. tuberose was really living life while sydney was here trying to get it all down on paper. it just didn't seem as fun. i'll make sure to keep that in mind she told him with a small nod of her head. she made a mental note to keep cotton balls away from her mouth. she didn't want to choke and die early on such a silly thing. i like your rambling! she told him defensively. there was no way she would want him to stop even if they were talking about cotton balls.
grabbing her pillow she set it down next to him and laid down. though of course her legs didn't even make it anywhere near the end of the tent. tuberose was just so much taller than she was and sydney was still hoping for that growth spurt. those couple of inches would make a huge difference. but for now she was going to have to deal with sitting next to such a tall guy. tuberose did a funny little thing with his eyebrows before he asked what her she wanted to talk about it. sydney thought about it for a moment but was drawing a blank.i'm not sure, what do you want to talk about? she asked him with a raise of her eyebrow as a response. she was quite sure that he would be able to come up with something much more interesting than anything she would want to talk about. turning to face him there wasn't much room between the both of them but sydney never really minded.

_________________________________
"WE HAVE TO GO CAMPING!" Tuberose shouted, his voice wild with joy. How he loved that idea! He had never really been camping before, if you didn't count accidentally locking himself out of his own apartment and having to sleep outside for the night before realizing that he keeps a spare key under the 'welcome' mat. So if you didn't consider a night under the stars induced by his own stupidity camping, then yes, he had never gone before. It sounded fun though, except for all the bugs and wild bears and dead zombies roaming around at night that just really want to eat his brains and sacrifice his body to the pagan gods of old before consuming his flesh----"Maybe it's not such a good idea, Syd. There could be some serious zombies out there," he said, his voice seriously unsure as he talked. It was a very scary thought, and for a person such as Tuberose who had an extremely over active imagination, it was terrifying. Shaking his head to get the images of a zombie ripping off his head out of his mind, Tuberose looked at Sydney. "But if you really want to go I guess we could bring zombie repellent spray, or something." Did they even have 'Zombie Be-Gone' spray at wal-mart? Tuberose didn't think so. . .
He was so glad that Sydney approved of his incessant blabber. Some people at school didn't, especially his teachers (losers!), and people would frequently get mad at him for it. But Tuberose never seemed to mind. He loved talking and he wasn't going to let anyone stop him. He also loved listening to other people talk, though, especially when they were as cool as Sydney. She had to be one of the most interesting girls he had ever met on the planet Earth. Now he didn't quite know about Jupiter. . . It's rumored that people on that planet are pretty rockin'. Or at least that was what Tuberose had heard.
When Sydney said that she didn't know what to talk about Tuberose nearly choked. The pillow that he had tossed into the air landed heavily in the air as he sat there in shock. How could she not want to talk about something? Was it him, was he being completely boring? Tuberose HATED boring people with a passion. Maybe it's because whenever he's around someone who's bland and boring he always finds himself going to sleep or bothering them. And then those types of people get really mad at him and get all red faced and end up all mean and nasty. Tuberose did not like people like that at all. But Sydney had yet to get angry at him and Tuberose knew that she was absolutely amazing. "I'm sure there's something that you're dying to talk about!" Shoving the pillow off of his face, Tuberose rolled over onto his side to where he was facing Sydney. His body was propped up by his elbow and his eyes glittered dangerously. "You're an interesting person. I just know that there's something that you really want to tell me. Hmmm," he said as he thought deeply. "You must have a secret you want to tell me. That could be fun. And I promise not to tell anyone." Of course, a promise with Tuberose was like making him promise not to breathe; it was just something that was in his nature to do. It wasn't that he tried to hurt people by blabbing everything, it was only that he had a really hard time keeping his lips shut. He was sort of like an old lady on bingo night.
He looked at Sydney with big expectant eyes. She was so fun to talk to, Tuberose thought happily as he began to hum some tuneless song to himself. He figured that maybe he should get the secret ball rolling so he began to filter through his thoughts. Of course there were those really stupid secrets that weren't anything to him, and then there were the really tough ones that he wouldn't want to tell anyone. Yeah, believe it or not, there were somethings that Tuberose didn't like talking about. The hard part was picking a secret that was in the middle somewhere. "Okay, I'll tell you one of mine first. When I was six years old I was totally addicted to those Flintstones chewy vitamins. Like I would eat whole bottles of them behind my parents back. I know right, it's pretty gross. But they were so colorful and fruity! Like whenever I go to Wal-Mart now and see them I almost puke because it brings back bad memories. I guess they tasted really good at the time. . . Now I don't even touch vitamins." Maybe that was why he was such a weakling these days. Of course, that's not to say that he was the healthiest kid after he chugged the vitamins either, though. Tuberose was really disappointed in 'adult' vitamins. They were all boring and plain and tasted like garbage. And they weren't cut out in the shapes of loving little cartoon characters! Ugh, growing up seemed like such a tragedy. And that's why Tuberose had decided not to. Or at least, not yet anyway.
Tuberose couldn't stand those super mature teenagers. There were so many of them at school, it made him sick. You only get to be a kid so long and Tuberose planed to make the best of the short time he could. Every time he thought about getting old. . . and growing up. . . and actually making his way in the world he couldn't bear to stay on the topic for too long. It made him go crazy. He just wasn't ready for stuff like that yet. He couldn't understand people who were, either. That was why he liked Sydney so much. Sure she was focused on her art, but she also put up with people like him. She wasn't all stuck-up and boring like other smart people Tuberose knew. "Your turn!" Tuberose said, a smile plastered over his goofy face.

his shouting scared her for a moment because she hadn't been expecting it. she could feel her eyes widen as she looked at him but then she relaxed when she realized he was just excited. sydney was happy to see that he would want to go camping with her. they would be able to do so many fun and exciting things out in the wilderness. they would also be able to really see the stars because in new york the lights were constantly on and they never seemed to take a break. but then he began talking about zombies which reminded sydney how scary the woods could be. you had no idea whether a serial killer could be wondering around or if a wolf was hungry and smelled your food. this was probably another reason sydney had never gone camping, she forgot how scared she was of being outside in the dark. she hadn't even thought of all the horrible things that could happen to them while they were exposed out in the woods. but then a light bulb seemed to shine over her head. maybe we can just go camping in my backyard? she told him excited to have thought of the idea. then they wouldn't have zombies, killers, or wild animals to worry about. but they would have to deal with bugs so that would probably get in the way but they could bring along insect repellent. then we can go inside if it gets scary she told him with an assuring nod. yes, this idea was brilliant and they were going to have to go and do this immediately. it just sounded so exciting that she wanted to try it out.
he looked at her in shock and sydney expected it to happen. she just wasn't the best at coming up with things on the spot. he was so much more better at it than she was. tuberose seemed very exciting to hear something fun come out of her mouth. i'm really not that interesting she told him with a small sigh. if anyone was interesting here it would just be him. hmm, a secret she thought to herself trying to think of what she had to hide. sydney wasn't very good at keeping secrets so she normally didn't have any. tapping her chin she tried to think of something he would like to know. maybe she could tell him about the stash of chocolate she had in her closet? no, then she would have to share it with him and he would be too hyper all day. sydney had absolutely no idea what she could share with him! there just seemed as if there was nothing for her to tell him that he would be interested in. sydney was a rather simple person and her life consisted of school and art. it was hard to have an exciting social life with the parents she had who thought the only thing important thing for her to do was work on her school life. the only time sydney was able to really let lose and have fun is when she went to visit her aunt jenny and she would take her out places. if her parents knew the kind of places she went with her aunt she would probably never be able to visit again. but her aunt was amazing and they had the same taste in music so they were able to go to loads of concerts together. pulling herself back to the point she still had nothing to tell him. whenever she heard about tuberose's fun life she felt kind of boring compared to him. she wasn't sure how long he would be able to keep his attention onto her when he realized she really didn't do much with her time because she was so focused on art.
before she could come up with one she was glad to hear that he had something to tell her. sitting up sydney watched him carefully excited to hear what he was going to have to say. she hung onto his every word as he explained his addiction to flinestone vitamins. sydney loved those as a kid but her parents were always a step ahead of her and were very careful about how much she had. they were rather strict and it was hard to do things behind their back because they always seemed to find out what she was up too. sydney would have loved to be eating whole bottles of them on her own because they tasted exactly like candy and they were just so delicious. i thought those were amazing as a kid sydney told him with a smile as he finished his story. vitamins were more fun when they tasted like candy and reminded you of cartoons. but now it was her turn to come up with a secret and her expression instantly turned into a lost and confused one. how about you can ask me any question you want and i'll answer as honestly as i can she told him with a nod. this seemed much easier than telling him the secret. though she was a little afraid of what he was going to ask her. she was a rather open person but there were some things that she needed to keep to herself.
notes: i had an addiction. i could relate to what he was saying. :3

Tuberose definitely didn't want to be stuck in some strange destination where the only people around were the ones who wanted to suck his blood and whatnot. Camping in Syd's backyard sounded like a wonderful solution! Grinning at Sydney, Tuberose couldn't help but get really excited (because, please, when has he never gotten really excited?). "Are you inviting me to stay the night over at your house?" Tuberose asked with a coy flutter of his eyelashes before breaking out into another goofy smile. He loved joking around with Sydney, it was just too fun! "I know a lot of women find me irresistible, but you could have just asked, babe," Tuberose added in his fake 'macho' voice that was all to dramatic to be taken seriously. Of course he hadn't meant it to be in the first place. That was the one thing about Tuberose; he didn't have one serious bone in his body. He seemed to be made out of 'funny' bones, or even 'ridiculously stupid to the point of mayhem and chaos' bones. "No, but we should really go camping. As long as you promise to protect me from all the evil buggies out there, Syd."Tuberose really wasn't in the mood for being eaten alive by the giant centipedes that he was sure Sydney's father was cultivating in their back yard just in case he ever caught Tuberose in Syd's room. Because Tuberose was sure that Mr. Clarke had something dastardly planed for any boy who was caught with his precious little daughter. And Tuberose respected that, for he was sure that other guys (golly-gee, not him of course!) would have taken advantage of Sydney had they been given the opportunity. And had Sydney not shut them down first.
Sometimes Tuberose secretly wished that his parents lived with him. He loved the freedom of being by himself, sure. But he missed having someone constantly looking out for him and taking care of him. Hell, Tuberose acted like a four year old child half the time, and by law he should have a caretaker! Except, he's not really four and he's almost of legal age so not really by any law. Tuberose loved being able to get up and leave whenever he wanted to and go where ever he wished, but he had done that while living with his parents too. They had been extremely relaxed with him and that had been great. But they had still gotten worried when he came home late or didn't show up at all. And no one did anymore; he could die in his apartment and no one would know until they realized that their lives were a lot more quiet and peaceful. That thought didn't bode well with Tuberose, so he decided to stop thinking about it. Tuberose turned back to Syd, balancing precariously on his side to talk to her. "Hell yeah you're interesting. You're like the awesomest person I know! I don't know what I'd do without you!" Well, actually Tuberose knew exactly just what he'd do without Sydney ---- be bored out of his mind at his house sleeping all day, not doing his homework, and in general being a sad ass all day before he got out of his house to stimulate his mind. Yep, Sydney was a real life saver to Tuberose, at least for now. "I mean, who else would I make a tent with?!"
Tuberose listened to Sydney's proposition silently, his mind working as fast as it possibly could without exploding. "Hmm. That doesn't really equal a secret, but I'll take it."
Now all he had to do was think of some really awesome question to ask her. Like if she preferred jelly or jam! But that was a pretty serious question. . . so Tuberose decided to save that one for last. "Okay. . . if you could be a llama or a cat, which would you be and why?" Tuberose asked, leaning in dramatically so he could hear the answer. "Next one. When did you learn how to read and how?" This was a question that Tuberose was always curious about. Some kids learned to read when they were really young, and others at a normal age. Hell, some kids never learned how to read and Tuberose found that a little sad. For Tuberose, learning hadn't really been one of the biggest things his parents focused on. In fact, Tuberose hadn't learned how to read until the end of his second grade. All the other kids in his class had made fun of him for being 'stupid' and 'slow', but he hadn't really cared. At that age Tuberose had been just excited with the fact that he had friends. The only reason he had ever learned to read, really, had been when his parents told him that when his baby brother was born he could teach him everything that he knew. Except Tuberose hadn't known anything back then. So he had learned with some strange passion that his teachers had never seen, and would never see again. However, Tuberose had never really gotten to teach his brother to read. . . They had been making progress, but the accident had happened before Bry had really mastered the skill. So Tuberose thought the question was really important, and somehow in his mind that all made since. There. He had asked her his warm up questions. Tuberose already liked this game a lot! It was like twenty-questions, or something. And like all young children, Tuberose was usually very inquisitive, even to the point of being extremely annoying. But that was just okay with Tuberose, because most of the time he didn't even notice. All he took stock of was his happiness, and that was all that mattered to Tuberose. In fact, his life was pretty simple. Whatever made him not worry about anything was the right answer and whatever kept his mind at ease was what he did. Some kids and adults didn't respect that, but Tuberose didn't give a shit. He was happy with his life that way and nothing else mattered at the moment. That's why he always got so frustrated when all the councilors at school wanted to talk to him; he didn't care about college and his grades and all the other crap they wanted him to pay attention to. His goal was to graduate high school before he turned forty-seven, and so far he thought he was doing well. As long as he didn't have to repeat another year of school Tuberose would be satisfied. What he would do with the rest of his life. . . well, he would figure that out when he needed to, right? Why worry now? _________________________________notes ||i really didn't learn how to read until like third grade. and now i read like there's no tomorrow. . . tags ||Sydney Clarke word count ||one one two oh outfit ||clickitifyoudarelyrics ||graffiti 6-stare into the sun [/blockquote]

are you interested? sydney told him with a wink before she burst out into laughter. tuberose was always such a flirt but sydney always found him to be rather entertaining when he did. she was sure he didn't mean half the things that came out of his mouth so that was probably the reason she was so calm about it. normally sydney wasn't the best with guys when they wanted to be anything more than friends. being a friend with a guy was easy and sydney could be totally natural and herself. but the second it seemed as though they wanted something more sydney never knew what to do and would always just try to avoid them. even though avoiding people wasn't the nicest thing to do she just wasn't comfortable telling a friend that she wasn't interested in them. of course if one of those guys like park came along and tried flirting with her rejecting them was easy peasy. she knew that they didn't mean anything they were saying and the only reason they seemed so charming around girls was just because they wanted to get into their pants. sydney wasn't the type to get charmed so easily by a guy and didn't plan on ever being that type of girl. you caught me, i find you extremely irresistible she told him with a roll of her eyed and a smile. though she didn't blame girls for having a thing for tuberose because he seemed like such a sweet heart. he was a little childish but at least you could always count on him to make you feel better when you really needed it. her mouth formed an o shape when he said she was going to have to protect him instead of it behind the other way around. why do i have to protect you? you're the guy she told him with a hmph. he was taller and much stronger than she was and he would probably be able to take care of everything much easier than she could. sydney was barely five foot three and wasn't at all intimidating.
oh do go on sydney told him with a wave of her hand pretending she wanted him to continue with the compliments. it was nice to know that he thought so highly of her. at least there was one person she could always count on being a fan of hers. most people didn't really understand her drive and misunderstood that the reason she was doing it was because she loved it. she wasn't just trying to become famous and make money (though that would be appreciated) she just wanted to paint for the rest of her life. it was something she could see herself doing until she could no longer move her hands. now that would probably be a big disappointed so hopefully it would never happen to her. you better not make tents with anyone else she told him wagging her finger warning him. this could be their special activity that they did together and she didn't know what she would do if she knew he was off making tents with other people! that wouldn't settle well with sydney at all and he would probably have to do something really big to get her to forgive him.
she was glad that he agreed to ask her questions instead of her coming up with questions on her own. she clapped her hands for a moment as he began to think of questions for her to answer. sydney was wondering what kind of questions he was going to come up with and she watched his face carefully trying to guess. sydney thought about it seriously for a moment wondering which animal she would rather be. as cool as llamas were they did tend to spit alot and she wasn't the biggest fan of spitting. cats on the other hand were independent and so graceful. easy, a cat sydney told him with a nod of her head happy that she had gotten such an easy question. she was expecting him to ask her something much more personal but at least it was something easy. and now for the second question she was ready for it. i learned to read when i was really young. my dad's is kind of an education freak she told him with a shrug. her father wanted his children to always be the top of their class even when they were younger. he was the type of dad who was always making their children work and didn't care much for them having fun. he thought education was fun and once they were done with school and had jobs they could do whatever they thought was fun because the

"Oh, I'm extremely interested," Tuberose said in his best seductive voice before laughing along with Sydney. She was so fun to be around, Tuberose thought happily. All the other girls he knew probably would have just given him a glare and turned their shoulder away from him. For some reason a lot of people didn't seem to like his joking, but that was okay with Tuberose. If they didn't like him than he obviously didn't like them in return, it was that simple. Of course there were always those girls that did like the way he acted, but they weren't always the brightest and they tended to make even Tuberose feel smart! Not saying that Sydney was a ditz, Tuberose amended in his mind, because she definitely wasn't. In fact, Tuberose thought she was one of the smartest people he had ever met. He guessed that she was just really nice and that's why she hadn't told him to shut up yet. Smiling at her, Tuberose laughed again. "Most woman do, don't worry. It's a normal reaction to my sexiness." When Sydney suddenly looked all upset Tuberose sat up. Listening to her, Tuberose couldn't help but grin. She was so funny! Had she even looked at him? He was all lanky and thin and probably had as much muscle as . . . something that didn't have a lot of muscle! How was he supposed to protect both of them from some super huge scary bug if he couldn't even manage to kill spiders at his own apartment without hyperventilating? Which, you'd be surprised, happened a lot to him. "Because I know that you have some super cool ninja moves you could pull out against your dad's man eating centipedes. I, on the other hand, only have the flail and run around like a giant baby technique down." Adding a little flail of his arms to get his point across, Tuberose could just see the scene in his head--- a giant bug with a hundred legs crawling out from the ground right next to their tent, Syd (all dressed in black ninja gear) kicking it's ass, and Tuberose running repeatedly into a brick wall in fear. Yep, that was just about how Tuberose saw it going down. Of course, we all know that his imagination is a tad-bit special.
Tuberose suddenly looked at her with an appalled look on his face. Taking in a false gasp, a hand went to his chest in mock surprise. "Are you insinuating that I am a tent whore, Sydney? I'll have you know that I am as loyal to you as a dog to it's favorite squeaky toy." How could she dare think that he'd go off and make tents with just about anyone? He definitely wasn't that kind of man. Okay, maybe Tuberose wasn't that hurt by her words, but it sure was fun to act that way! Oh, and the mention of the squeaky toy made him think of slobber and dog hair, so he took the statement back. "Just kidding. And dogs usually just rip apart their toys anyway, so I'm just really loyal to you. No fancy simile needed." Tuberose studied Sydney when she said she'd rather be a cat. When he thought about it, she did seem more like a cat person. Tuberose, however, was more of a llama. He was awkward and goofy and lanky and weird; totally not cat material. But that was totally okay with him because he thought they were super cute. Not in a strange creepy way, or anything. He guessed that cats were pretty cool, but he'd never had one before. They seemed kind of lonely to him, and Tuberose didn't really like lonely animals. Tuberose knew that llama's and cat's could be friends, though, because both animals were pretty cool, and pretty cool things tend to stick together. Like him and Sydney.
Listening to her second answer, Tuberose felt sort of sad for Sydney. Not in a way that he pitied her; of course he didn't, she was so lucky that her parents cared that much about her. More in a way that he just felt a little melancholy that she had such strict parents. His parents hadn't really ever cared much about what he did, as long as he didn't die or kill anyone. Beyond that he was a free man. But Sydney's life seemed so restricted and regulated and well. . . boring. That was why he was here though! Sydney had thought it was because he needed help on his homework, but nope. Tuberose's devious mind had really just wanted to make her happier. And Tuberose was the best at spreading smiles, that was for sure! "Hmm," Tuberose mumbled as he attempted to think of his next questions. There was no way he was letting her off that easy! Sure he could ask her what her favorite vegetable was, but that was a pretty boring question. Her shoe size, perhaps? Tuberose studied her feet studiously before he came to the conclusion that they were rather small and wouldn't prove to entertain him. "If you could marry anyone on the planet---including the famous and the deceased, or both---who would it be?" That was always an interesting question to ask people. He was always amazed with the answers that some wackos could come up with; ranging anywhere from Michael Jackson to George Washington, it definitely was a fun question to ask all his friends."How about this; if you were offered a job as a famous artist, promised pay and everything, but you had to remove all but three of your toes, would you take the job?" Tuberose knew that 'famous artist' wasn't really a position you could apply for, and you definitely couldn't find those sort of ads in the newspaper, but this was all hypothetical of course. And Tuberose really wanted to know if Sydney valued her toes. Another very important question. _________________________________tags ||Sydney Clarke word count ||nine eight nine outfit ||clickitifyoudarelyrics ||graffiti 6-stare into the sun

well now that we've established that we're both interested… sydney attempted to keep a straight face but her imagination got the better of her. she wondered if tuberose ever really did use that voice when he was with a girl. she thought it would be really funny to see him talking that way right before he kissed someone. if it was sydney she would have burst out in giggles and wouldn't have been able to take him seriously after that. makes sense she told him with an understanding nod. of course woman would have to act this way towards him. she gave him a big smile loving how their conversations went from normal to extremely funny in no time. it's true, i am rather tough she commented casually as she pretended to check her nails. in reality they bought would probably be running away if they saw any type of bug out there in the wilderness. sydney wasn't a fan of bugs and she doubted tuberose would either. at least the both of them would be able to run away together. you're going to make my face hurt from smiling so much she told him as she tried to keep her face normal. putting both of her hands on her cheeks she attempted to calm herself down.
she couldn't help but smile at his reaction as his hand made its way onto his chest. well i'm just making sure you aren't cheating on me she told him giving him a look as he compared himself to a dog. but then as soon as compared himself to one he took it back and sydney thought he probably didn't want her to see him as a dog. if you say so sydney told him looking away dramatically as if she didn't believe him. oh now that was a tough question. sydney's fingers tapped her chin as she tried to figure out who she would want to be married too. there were so many people she would love to see herself with. but then when it came to celebrities you never really knew who you were dealing with. they said and did the things they needed to in order to keep themselves famous. how could she think about marrying a person when she barely really knew them? and there weren't any guys at school that sydney happened to be partially interested in at the moment so nobody was coming to mind. i have no idea sydney told him with a small shrug. how can i think about marriage when i haven't even kissed a boy yet? she told tuberose with a small shrug and shake of her head. even though most people would be too embarrassed to admit they've never been kissed she didn't see the point of hiding it from tuberose. he said whatever came to his mind and she really liked the fact that he was honest about his intentions. if more people were as honest as he was at least the world would be a much easier place to live in. you wouldn't have to worry what people were really saying behind your back.
sydney smiled for a moment as she waited for the next question to move on from her sad love life to something more interesting.she hadn't been expecting this question to come right after the who would you marry one and she was surprised that he came up with it. nope, i'd rather make it on my own said sydney looking down at her feet imagining what they would look like. i'm rather fond of my toes and i'd like to keep them she told him as she pulled her legs closer to her. just the thought of her losing her toes freaked her out and she never wanted that to happen. of course being a famous artist would be amazing but if she was going to have to give up part of her body then there was no way she was going for it. sydney knew that being an artist was hard work and wasn't very financially stable but she had already decided that it was what she wanted to do. if she was going to have to spend a few years of her life in some crappy apartment barely making any money at least she would have her art to turn to.

Tuberose still couldn't believe that Sydney had accused him of cheating on her. He wouldn't even dare! And Tuberose knew, like she said, that Syd was a rather tough girl. If she found out that Tuberose really was cheating on her, then she'd probably kick his ass and he knew it. Except, Tuberose remembered as if it were some sort of epiphany, they were only talking about tent building. It wasn't like they were in some intimate relationship, or anything! Tuberose laughed at her comments before settling once more. His favorite part was about to come! He couldn't wait for her to answer his questions. Tuberose tried to sit still as he listened to Sydney continue, but it was just too hard for the poor kid. His feet started tapping wildly at the floor in excitement, his mind all over the place with each part of her answers.
If you asked him, Tuberose wouldn't be able to tell you what he liked so much about this 'game'. Maybe it was because he was a naturally curious kid, or it could be that he just really liked learning about Sydney. Of course he liked other people just as much as her, but Tuberose found that she was one of the easiest for him to talk to. Hell, anyone was easy for Tuberose to talk to. Rather, Sydney was the easiest one to hold a conversation with. Most people Tuberose knew didn't really like holding long conversations with him (he was too hyper? Or some other lame excuse like that. . .) and tended to want him to shut up half the time. He never could manage to figure out why. . . but that was because once they did he was off to find the next person. How long had he been talking to Sydney in the tent? Ever since they had finished the stupid homework? How long ago had that been? Whatever the number was, Tuberose was very sure that it had been a very long time. Not that he was complaining! He loved talking to Sydney, she was one of his favoritest friends!
Tuberose listened to both of her answers before replying to either one of them. Anyway, the whole toe question had randomly sparked into his mind and he had to get it out before it disappeared, just like all the other things Tuberose thought usually did. It wasn't his fault that his thoughts just went . . . 'poof'. . . but the typically did. Especially in class and when he was testing. Poof. So Tuberose was very glad that he had gotten out this question in time before the poof fairy had attacked his brain. Stupid fairies. "Really? That's pretty cool, Syd. I do think toes are overrated, however. I mean, who really wants them? They're just weird looking, and some are really hairy and they remind me of little flesh nuggets," Tuberose said with his face twisted into a disgusted grin. He really didn't like toes all that much. Some were nice, he guessed, but he didn't really understand why they were so important. Just toes, that was what he thought. But he also thought it was totally cool about Sydney making it on her own. Tuberose doubted that he could ever do anything like that himself. Not being an artist, but the fact that Sydney is willing to put in so much hard work just for a dream of becoming great and sharing her art with the world one day. Tuberose knew that he lacked motivation in life, and at the moment that was just all right with him. He was making it by---whatever that meant for someone like Tuberose. He definitely liked somethings, like toast and bubbles and Pillow Pets and llamas and sparkles. But he also knew that he wouldn't be able to make a career out of any of those things. Sure he could make some shitty knockoff line of Pillow Pets, but Pillow Petz had already done that. He didn't want to be a knockoff of a knockoff, for god's sake! He wasn't that low of a person just yet!
Tuberose's mind suddenly snapped to Sydney's first answer to the first question he had asked her. Somehow all his thoughts were suddenly focused around that one idea. His mouth was slightly hanging open as he sat up and looked at Sydney, his eyes intensely confused. "Never. Been. Kissed." Tuberose said slowly, each word like he was reading it from some profound epic saga, or something. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. In fact, it was such a strange idea that Tuberose couldn't even begin to comprehend the idea. Sydney had never kissed anyone? Why not? She was such a lovely girl, Tuberose thought, surely she'd at least kissed one person. But Tuberose didn't really think Syd was one to lie about these types of things. His eyes still trained on her, Tuberose tried to shut his agape mouth. He still couldn't believe it. That was so sad. Tuberose loved kissing people, it was so fun! Why wouldn't someone kiss her?
And at the time Tuberose didn't figure it was because she hadn't wanted to kiss anyone. No, not at all. Because the only thought at that moment was the idea of an action. One impulsive thought without reason. And this one impulsive thought turned into one impulsive action, and that one impulsive action had Tuberose leaning over towards Sydney. By this time he had managed to close his mouth finally, his resolution firm in his churning mind. Tuberose thought it was so sad that she'd never been kissed. And Tuberose was slightly afraid that she'd become one of those ladies that are forty-seven and have no husband, hundreds of cats, and in Syd's case, buried under heaps of artwork. And everyone knows how all that starts; never being kissed. That scared him more than anything. Tuberose didn't want Sydney to ever be that unhappy! He couldn't live with himself if he knew that that would one day happen to her. That was how Tuberose, with that strange and unrealistic fear burning in his mind, found himself face to face with Sydney. And before she could react or he could realize the absence of logic in his actions, he leaned over and kissed Sydney on the lips.

sydney shuttered for a moment when he called them flesh nuggets. it was just a very gruesome image that she never really thought about it. she wasn't a fan of feet and toes but if she was going to have them then she would prefer to just have them all so it would at least look somewhat normal. thanks, well without all of them it would look weirder than they already are she told him still trying to get that image out of her mind. he really did think of the most interesting things sydney thought to herself.
when his face got close to hers sydney had no idea what he was planning but she could feel her cheeks turning a bright red. he wasn't saying anything just staring at her and getting closer and closer. sydney just closed her eyes not sure what was happening but the space between them was starting to worry her. normally these things didn't bother sydney but the face he was making was one that she didn't see all too often. before she knew it she felt his lips on hers and it took her a moment to realize what he was doing. pushing him away sydney's hand instantly went up and covered her lips not sure why he did that. sydney got up quickly waving her hands to get the tent down so she could get out of the room. she walked away as fast as she could and made her way into the bathroom closing the door behind her. leaning against the door sydney slowly sank down to the ground trying to replay what had happened in her mind. in the beginning she was confused to why he had kissed her then she realized he probably felt bad that she hadn't been kissed so he tried to fix it. now sydney was just angry that he assumed that she would want him to kiss her just because nobody else had yet. she wanted her first kiss to be something special not something that happened because someone else thought it should. sydney hated when people felt bad for her especially for such a reason as this one. what was the big deal if she hadn't kissed anyone yet? she just wasn't interested in dating or being intimidate with anyone just yet. her way of thinking probably made no sense to teenage girls but that was just how she saw things. pulling her legs closer to her
sydney wrapped her arms around them not sure what she was going to do now. tuberose was alone in her room and she had probably dropped some of the covers on top of him but she honestly was just too emotional to deal with him at the moment. she of all people was feeling too emotional. this almost never happened because she was the one that was able to keep calm in all types of situations. nothing ever really phased her but this just made her mind spin. even though she was angry at tuberose the thing she felt most was embarrassed. she was embarrassed that he had kissed her and she had reacted in such a lame way. most people would probably laugh it off and get over it but sydney just couldn't do it. sydney didn't want to face tuberose so she decided to just stay in the bathroom and maybe he would leave on his own accord. even though he thought he was trying to help he was just making her confused. sydney bit her lip as she tightened her grip over her legs and buried her head into them.

_________________________________
All it took was one moment for Tuberose's world to come crashing down on top of him. No, seriously. He thought he was going to be suffocated by all the blankets and pillows that fell on top of him in one split second. One of the pillows fell on his head before he smacked it away ninja style (okay, maybe not so much ninja-like. . .) and stood up. He watched Sydney storm off with a strange expression playing out on his face and thoughts streaming through his mind. Why had she reacted like that? Tuberose was having a hard time making much sense out of the whole situation he had just found himself in. Sydney had pushed him away. Then she had walked off. And the tent was destroyed! How could she do such a thing to their tent? None of it was making much sense to him as he took a step towards the door that Sydney had just rushed out of. Tuberose paused. To follow or not to follow, now that was the question. He still couldn't figure why she had left all of a sudden though. Was it because his kiss had sucked? Tuberose, shaking his head, sincerely doubted. For the most part, he was pretty good at those things. So what was the reason behind Syd's strange actions, then? Had she suddenly remembered something that she had to do? Or was it that she was just tired with him. Tuberose definitely didn't want that! Turning his head to look back at the disheveled mess of blankets Sydney had created of their tent, Tuberose frowned for a second. It must be something serious, he thought, if she was willing to do something as terrible as ruining their tent.
Finally he came to the conclusion that the only way to find out what was wrong was to follow her. Tuberose made his way slowly down the hallway, until he came to the door that he had seen Sydney disappear behind. He knocked once. Then twice. Then a bunch of times and started talking loud enough for her to hear him on the other side. "Sydney? What's wrong? Why did you just pull a Houdini on me?" Houdini---as in the action of suddenly vanishing, like in the acts of a magic show. One moment Tuberose had been kissing her, and the next.... POOF! She had just left him behind. And then a thought popped into his head and Tuberose found himself frowning once more. Was she upset at something he had done? Surely it couldn't have been the kiss that made her act so weird. "Are you mad at me, Syd?" he asked in a small voice, the realization of everything hitting him at once. Tuberose didn't like it very much when people were mad at him, and if that was the case he would feel very bad. As mentioned before, Tuberose is a very oblivious individual. But once he does realize the fact of the situation, he tends to overreact most of the time. Tuberose leaned his shoulder against the door, placing one hand on the door frame and squinted. Maybe if he starred long enough at the door it would magically open, right? Open sesame? That always worked. Tuberose was tempted to say those magical words before he realized that Sydney would probably just get even more mad at him for doing something stupid. Pushing his hair back with the other hand that wasn't on the door frame, Tuberose couldn't believe what was happening. Replaying the scene in his head, he attempted to get a grip on why Sydney was in the bathroom. He kissed her, she pushed him away, destroyed the tent, ran off, and then he followed. All he had been trying to do with that once innocent kiss was save her from the terrible life of a cat-lady. . . There wasn't any harm in that.
But obviously something was wrong. For one brief second Tuberose almost managed to trick himself into thinking that Sydney had some sort of bathroom emergence and that was why she had rushed away, but he wasn't stupid enough to actually believe that. Something had definitely been off with Sydney, and she was pissed at something, Tuberose knew that for sure. "Sydney!" He whined all of a sudden. This confusion was just too much for Tuberose. Normally he went through life just a little confused, but this lack of knowledge was exceeded what he was used to by a lot. His head was spinning as he went through different scenarios of what could be wrong with Sydney. Maybe she just realized she had a super top secret ninja meeting and she had to get to it or be killed by the Society of Ninjas for the Cause of Jello Endangerment (SNCJE). Yeah right, Tuberose chided himself, ninjas would never be able to kill Syd! What a preposterous thought! So far that was the only thing that explained why she would have suddenly left like that. Because Tuberose wasn't quite willing to open his mind up to more realistic reasoning just yet. If he ever would be.

sydney had really hoped that tuberose would have just left instead of coming to her and figuring out what was wrong. she could hear him knock on the door and sydney continued to sit there ignoring it not ready to talk to him just yet. tuberose probably wouldn't understand what she was feeling and she was in no mood to sit down and talk to him about it right now. she wasn't sure if she would ever be in that type of mood. she hadn't meant to storm out in such a way and completely ruin the tent they had just made. all sydney knew was that she had to get out of that room as soon as possible before something else happened. she wasn't sure what he expected to happen after he kissed her. was she supposed to thank him for taking her first kiss? were they just supposed to go back to talking and act as if nothing had just happened? she didn't understand what was going on in that brain of his but all she knew was that it was causing her to go through multiple emotions all at once. and she had all these thoughts going through her head and she wasn't sure which to believe and which to just disregard. when he asked if she was mad at him she wanted to scream yes and tell him what she was going through but she couldn't bring herself to do it. the way he asked her made it seem as though he really didn't have any idea to why she was angry at him. why-why'd you kiss me? she asked him her voice just loud enough so that he would be able to hear her. even though sydney wasn't quite sure she wanted to know the answer she needed to know why he did it. why would he just kiss her all of a sudden because she told him she had never kissed a guy. it couldn't be that tuberose liked her because he treated her just how he treated pretty much everyone else so that couldn't be the reason. the only reason sydney was thinking about was that he thought her not kissing anyone was sad. that thought kept going through sydney's head and she really hoped he wouldn't say anything like that. she didn't want to remember her first kiss coming from someone that just felt bad for her.
whatever his intention was she knew it couldn't be that bad. tuberose was such a nice person and here she was treating him as though he just did something so unforgivable to her. it was just a kiss people kissed all the time but nobody reacted like she did. sydney never felt so emotional about anything that didn't have to do with her art. she had no idea how to deal with boys when it came to anything that crossed the line of friendship. she only saw boys as her friends and she never really thought of them as anything other than that. maybe sydney was too focused on her art and could maybe even consider dating. he said her name once more and she broke away from her thoughts and tried to figure out how she was going to handle this situation. there was no way sydney could face him after doing such an embarrassing thing. i want to be alone she told him finally not wanting him to see her face which she was sure was still bright red. can you just leave? sydney asked him softly hoping he heard what she had said. she leaned her head against the door wishing that she could just forget everything that happened here today. all sydney knew was that she needed some time away from tuberose in order for that to happen. she just wanted him to get his stuff and leave her house even though it was unfair to just let him go without explaining to him properly why she was angry at him. sydney wasn't in the mood to be a nice person and do everything the way she normally would. she just wanted to be in the house alone so she could blast her music and just let her mind drift away.

_________________________________ Waiting for a response, Tuberose tapped his fingers patiently against the door. He really didn't understand what could be taking Sydney so long. Was she in a come or something? Had some random health issue exploded and that was why she had rushed out? Tuberose was suddenly frightened for his friend. However, when she finally spoke up he become more confused than anything else. Leaning into to the door so that he could hear her clearly, Tuberose furrowed his brow. Why had he kissed her? "Syd, I kiss everyone. Hell, I just do these things---" And then everything almost began to make since to him for that one moment. She was upset. . . Because he had kissed her? That didn't even make since to Tuberose. How could someone be upset because they were kissed? Kissing was supposed to make people happy. "Is that what you're all grumpy about, Sydney? You know how I am---things just happen. I didn't mean to make you upset, Sydney!" He whined, taking in all his thoughts in that one moment. She was really upset at him, wasn't she? Tuberose still couldn't manage to grasp why she was so angry. He was used to people getting pissed at him over stupid things like his naturally bubbly personality or because they were jealous of how happy he always managed to be, but over a kiss? That was just unheard of.
Tuberose kissed a lot of people. It was one of his favorite things to do. But don't worry, he wasn't officially labeled a man whore at school, or anything. Most people he knew just eventually came to realize that he couldn't control his random actions, and they got used to it. Crinkling his noes in frustration, Tuberose realized that it was obvious that Sydney had not gotten used to it yet. But what was wrong with his kissing? He was pretty sure he was decent enough at it, so he knew it couldn't have been the most disgusting kiss of her life, or anything. And that was when it really hit him. Sydney was mad at him because Tuberose had taken her first kiss. He suddenly wanted to smack himself in the face. "Syd, I don't know what I was thinking! I guess I just thought you deserved a really special first kiss. . . And I'm as special as they get around here!"Tuberose said, attempting to joke around a little. Maybe if he got her to laugh she wouldn't want to kill him anymore, Tuberose thought. Because he was right, he definitely was 'special'. And he did want Sydney to have a great first kiss. Only, he know new that he had probably gone around it the wrong way. As in, he should have just left it alone. But in Tuberose's mind that just didn't make any sense at all. And when he listened to his own voice, it sounded more pathetic than playful and that scared him.
Even if he didn't know it, Sydney did mean a lot to him. She was one of the only people on the planet that put up with all his crazy antics. Most people thought he went too far when he opened his mouth, and yet Syd allowed him to talk and talk and talk and they had lots of fun together. He had learned her limits today, however. He didn't want to lose his friendship with her over something so stupid as a little kiss. Because for Tuberose, that was all it was---a little kiss. Kisses were kisses and they didn't mean anything. And anyway, it hadn't been a very long one. It didn't really count for much. "Please don't be mad at me, Sydney," He crooned into the door, hoping that she could hear just how much he meant his words. Tuberose really did hate when people were mad at him (of course, that is after her realizes it). Anger was just an emotion that Tuberose didn't like very much. Especially because he did even stupider things when he was angry than he did 'level-headed'. He also didn't like when people didn't like him. He didn't like when Sydney was mad at him and didn't like him for sure. It just wasn't a good feeling to have churning in his stomach.
So when she told him that she wanted to be alone Tuberose was tempted to knock down the door separating them and beg her to forgive him. Of course, he didn't because a: he didn't have the strength to physically knock the door down and b: he didn't exactly know what he'd be apologizing for. Apologies didn't come very natural to Tuberose because he never really realized that his actions hurt others. He guessed he had hurt Sydney; that was why she was all growly at him, right? And now she wanted him to leave. His shoulders sagged forward, Tuberose turned away from the door dejectedly and looked down the hallway back to the bedroom where all his things were. He really didn't want to leave, especially when Sydney was all upset. Of all the times to be alone, Tuberose thought, sadness wasn't one of them. Of course to Tuberose, there was really never a time to be alone. "Okay, whatever, Sydney," he mumbled as he dragged his feet down the hallway. Now all he had to do was get his bag together and leave, and try not to think about what had just happened between him and Sydney, and whether or not it was one of those large mistakes in his life that made him absolutely miserable. _________________________________notes ||finished?
