» OVERALL:
Kaitlin Uri Maddox is not your average New Yorker when it comes to fashion. It would seem that this girl could care less about what she puts on her body, or what her hair looks like. Clothing is clothing is clothing. The only reason she wears it is to keep warm and not be arrested for public indecency. On a typical day Kait will be found wearing a pair of comfy jeans, a sweater, and maybe shoes if your lucky. She prefers not to overdo anything she wears just because she doesn’t have the time and/or she just doesn’t care all that much. To some people she might seem slobbish and lazy, but Kait doesn’t really care. Fashion and style just aren’t her things. Kait only wears a little make up on her face, which usually consists of mascara and eye shadow. She’s a chapstick girl all the way, and won’t usually be caught in lipstick unless she’s going to a party. Despite all her efforts to look average, however, Kaitlin truly is a very pretty girl. Her hair is a light blonde color that naturally forms waves around her face. Many people her age would strive for the ‘perfect’ hair, but Kait doesn’t mind. She usually leaves it the way it wants to be, and the only products she puts in it are the shampoo and conditioner she uses in the shower.

» OVERALL PERSONALITY:
To Kaitlin, life is just one big game. It’s something to have fun with. It doesn’t matter if she screws something up, because in games there are always second chances, right? Kait has trouble taking anything too seriously, even some of the toughest of situations. She’s a rather playful person who enjoys her own little world she’s created around herself. Even when things are terribly wrong she tends to think it’s only a mild problem. She misses a taxi at four o’clock in the morning when all the creepy predators are out? Oh well, she can always grab the next one. No problem. Life is an adventure to Kait and every corner holds new surprises for her. Kaitlin absolutely loves New York; it’s a giant playground! One of Kait’s biggest passions is photography. Her brother gave her her first camera, and she hasn’t been able to stop snapping pictures since. For an aspiring photographer, New York is heaven. Kait can always be found with a camera in hand taking shots of random people, places, and things.
Nothing gets to this girl, and if it does, she sure as hell won’t show it. Kaitlin’s been through a lot in her life, such as moving to Finland so her and her father could live with her new stepmother, but she’s not one to talk too freely about her struggles. Even if she’s going through the toughest time of her life she won’t complain to many people about it. She’s a private person. Kaitlin also doesn’t get hurt by very many things and is extremely tough. She doesn’t care what people say about her and will often just shrug a shoulder to insults. She tends not to get angry at complete strangers; she’d rather blow up on one of her closest friends. It’s much easier for her to show her true emotions around loved ones and people that she trusts. However, these days, trust is a very hard thing for Kait to hand out. She just recently got out of an extremely abusive relationship with the man she first lived with during her stay in New York, and has a few emotional scars left over from it.
Kaitlin is very proud. If she can do something without another’s help, she’ll do it the best of her ability. She likes to believe that she’s making it on her own in New York, and that she’s invincible. Nothing can reach her if she says it can’t. This is one of her biggest faults, though, because she can be so prideful to the point of stupidity. She’ll do it on her own, even if it doesn’t end up so well. Kaitlin is currently living on her own . . . meaning that she’s sleeping around at her friends’ houses when she can’t find any place on her own. She’s a big fan of the New York party scene and can often be found hanging out at the best of them. Guys are just something she toys with at the moment and she likes to believe that she’d never let one weigh her down. However, Kaitlin is truly a softy at heart and really just loves to cuddle. Anybody who can make it into her life is lucky, but once they’re there, she’ll never get rid of them. Kait is extremely devoted to her loved ones and won’t turn her back on them ever if she can help it. She wants other people to be happy around her. She’s a big people-pleaser when it comes to her loved ones, and if you’ve managed to gain her love and trust, she’ll try her absolute hardest to not let you down.
Freedom is everything to Kaitlin. She moved to New York to be her own person, and even though she doesn’t know how long she’s going to be in town, she knows that she’s going to make the most out of her stay while she can. She hates being held down by restrictions and regulations, and she’s a little bit of a rule-breaker. Maybe that’s why she dropped out of high school her junior year, or maybe it could just be that she was ready to see the world and was tired of normal day to day life. She goes where she wants and does what she wants usually, and doesn’t really care if anyone doesn’t agree. Kait’s definitely her own person.

» HISTORY:
When six year old Kaitlin Uri Maddox was told that she would be moving to Finland there was nothing but excitement in her small heart. After four years of her father’s growing depression, she was happy to see him smile once more at the thought of moving. At that age Kaitlin didn’t understand why they were moving, all she knew was that she wanted to experience a different part of the world and for her dad to be happy again. See, this sadness in her father had started ever since he r mother died when Kait was only two years old. The little girl didn’t remember her mother at all, but it was obvious in her father’s anger that he did. However, they would be moving soon and everything would be better. Or so she thoughts, at least. It turned out that what her father hadn’t told her was that they were moving so that he could be remarried to a woman by the name of Rinna. Arriving in Helsinki, Kait was very upset with her father for not telling her right away. It was her family too. However, things were soon smoothed over when Kaitlin met her new family.
Rinna Maddox was a Finnish movie star who had made an attempt at filming a movie in America, but the project had fallen through. Luckily, Richard Maddox had been the translator on set for the crew and had met the lovely Scandinavian woman before she left. Falling in love, they eventually made the decision to move in together. Richard wasn’t the only one bringing a child into the relationship, though, because Rinna also had a eleven year old son. Kaitlin didn’t instantly love her new mother, but she did become close to her new brother from the get go. Life in a different country was hard at first, but Petr, her brother, helped her fit in and taught her life in Finland. Kait loved her new big brother so much that she often threw fits when he had to go to school, or freaked out if he wanted to go play with his own friends without her.
Life began to fall into a pattern for Kaitlin Maddox. She learned to love her new family and even enjoyed her new surroundings. Finland was a unique experience for Kait and she found it extremely interesting. Surprisingly, it wasn’t her translator father who made the effort to teach her Finnish, but Petr. The two young children would spend hours and hours learning the language, and eventually Kait got to where she could speak it fluently. School was much easier at this point because although her school did speak some English, the majority was Finnish and without her new knowledge it would have been impossible to pass. Kaitlin ended up making many friends at school and was even a very good student.
Her life was changed when she was only thirteen years old. Petr, who was now nineteen and attending a local university for journalism, gave Kait her first camera for her birthday. It was an old Nikon from about thirty years ago, but Kait still managed to fall in love with it. There was something about seeing life through a lens that was so attractive to her. With her camera in hand, she had a chance to control her world. Things were seen how she wanted them to be seen when she took the pictures; she was in control of everything. From that point on Kait was obsessed. She bought many different cameras over time but still fell in love with her original. The older ones were always better in Kait’s opinion. The next four years of her life were relatively normal. Petr was more and more involved in his college work and Kait saw less and less of him, but she was okay with that. Her parent’s were still happy and her mother was working on her next big film. Kait’s life was average and boring. So naturally, she hated it because of that.
Petr had recently gone on a study abroad trip to New York for his journalism major. While there he had met another student named Brit Jameson, and the two had become fast friends. When he came back to Finland, and to Kait, all he had to tell were the most amazing stories of his time over in America. Kait couldn’t help but be intrigued by the country that she only had fuzzy memories of. Suddenly, she had the urge to go back. For weeks and weeks she tried to talk her parents into letting her take a trip during the summer, but they wouldn’t allow her to. She was too young, they said. Kait quickly grew angry and told all her worries to Petr. He didn’t see a problem in America, and even though it had its rough patches, so did Finland. It couldn’t be that hard for a fully capable seventeen year old girl to survive for a few months.
Except somewhere along the way a few months had turned into a few years in Kait’s mind. A plan quickly sprouted from Petr’s support. It eventually led into the idea that she could drop out of school without her parent’s permission and sneak onto a plane to America. Petr had already contacted Brit and asked him if his sister could spend the summer with him, and everything had already been set. So what was the harm in speeding the plan up a little bit? Kait couldn’t see any danger in it. After all, it was her life, and she was the one in control of it. Every time she thought about all the beautiful photography and landscapes in America she would shiver and get so excited she couldn’t contain herself. So one day she just simply dropped out of her high school, wrote Brit’s phone number on her hand, and bought a plane ticket to New York. Arriving there, Kaitlin was in heaven. Everything was so beautiful. She couldn’t stop herself from taking pictures of nearly everything she saw, from fire hydrants to little children on the street. And when she called Brit Gabriel Jameson, he was only a little bit more than surprised. Everything was sorted out, though, and he eventually allowed her to live with him after a little persuasion on Kait’s behalf. Moving into Brit’s little apartment was more than exciting for Kait. Everything seemed great in her life, and when her parents found out about her plans they didn’t even rush down to collect her. Instead, Petr somehow managed to talk them into letting her go.
Half a year passed and things were absolutely amazing for Kait. Brit soon turned into one of her best friends, and the person she liked to pretend she didn’t depend on. She got a small job down at a local photo gallery as an assistant and was able to pay Brit a little for letting her live with him. She thought that everything was going to work out just fine. One day, however, everything changed. It was true that Brit and Kait had something undeniable, and if time had given them the chance, maybe just maybe they would have fallen in love. But fate didn’t hold those cards for these two, it would seem. She was seventeen and a half the night that they came home together from one of his college buddy’s party. Both of them were extremely drunk when Brit started kissing her. Things quickly escalated, and at the time neither one of them truly realized what was going on, until they woke up next to each other in his bed the next morning.
Things changed for the two of them after that night. It began to happen more and more, and after awhile they didn’t even need to be intoxicated to find themselves drawn together. Sex became a part of their relationship that they never talked about but were always aware of. Kait was okay with it. Until it turned abusive. When she denied him Brit would get angry all of a sudden. It was a new thing that Kait hadn’t ever experienced. Had this rage always been inside of him? He told her that if she didn’t put out he’d kick her out of the apartment. For a year Kaitlin let this happen to her. She liked Brit---she truly did---and she didn’t want their friendship to fall to pieces. She thought what they had was good. But one day it all just fell apart for Kait, and she could no longer take it. Maybe it was because she had put up with all the shit for too long, or maybe she just felt that it was time for change.
Amidst one of their famous fights Kait moved out. Grabbing all her things, she told Brit that she would never see him again. Of course he was furious, but Kaitlin managed to get out of the house before he could stop her. The only problem was that now she had no where to live in a city that was still a little foreign to her. Luckily she had built up a list of friends through all the parties she had gone to with Brit, and she knew a few people she could live with. She’d also saved up some of her paychecks from work and would be able to support herself if she kept working. Moving out, she felt liberated and free, and it wasn’t until she took her first steps outside without Brit hanging over her shoulder did she realize just how much she had been a captive to him.
Now Kaitlin’s living on her own and is trying to enjoy life once more. The pain of Brit’s betrayal is slowly ebbing away and she’s moving on. Her dreams of photography are stronger than ever and her hopes of adventure and happiness are just beginning to grow. She’s in the process of getting her GED through a string of classes offered at the high school for people like her--drop outs—so that she might be able to get a better job in the future. Kaitlin’s living life and she’s not going to allow anyone to stop her.
