BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground Olivia yawned as she dragged her body down yet another street on this early Saturday morning. It was only nine twenty and she'd already been up and out for close to three hours. The wind wasn't making her feel any better. Every few seconds it would whip her curly locks in her face, leaving a stinging feeling. Not to mention, the heavier gusts made it even harder for her to walk. She was upset, but she put on a smile for her mother. She didn't want to ruin her morning, but she hoped it ended soon so she could take a much needed nap. Even school mornings weren't this hard for Olivia to handle. At least at school, in certain classes, she could get a good thirty to forty minutes of sleep. The most sleep she'd gotten since waking up so far had been the car ride to their first stop, which was only about fifteen minutes away.
Olivia hated running errands with her mother, but she didn't want to complain. After everything her mother had done, she felt she should be more than willing to spend some quality time with her, even if it was before sunrise. With her father away on business and her younger siblings away at sleepovers with their own friends, Olivia and her mother were all alone at home. The night before, they popped popcorn and fell asleep in Olivia's mom's bed while watching Lifetime movies. It had been around midnight when Olivia dosed off, her mother by then already being in a deep sleep. Had Olivia known how early she'd have to wake up, she probably would have skipped the last movie and gone to sleep. The two hour film was not work the exhaustion she was currently feeling.
Olivia struggled to keep pace with her mother, who was as awake as she normally was in the afternoon. Olivia didn't know how she did it. Even with coffee, Olivia was still tired, yet her mother seemed fine. Then again, she knew all about the morning's plans and had many opportunities to make sure she got enough rest. Olivia had been the victim of surprise shopping trips and breakfast with her grandparents. Lucky for her though, she convinced her mom to let her wear what she wanted instead of the dress and heels her mom had laid out. If she'd taken her mom's fashion advice, she'd be tired, frozen, and her feet would be killing her. Her flat boots and jeans were just what she needed to keep from falling over face first onto the concrete.
Mrs. Ramos dragged her daughter into yet another store, much to Olivia's dismay. She closed her eyes as she passed the comfortable looking couch with its pillows that seemed to be calling her name. She was just ready to get home and into her bed, though she couldn't see that happening anytime soon. Once her mom got started shopping, there was almost no stopping her. Her father even mentioned that he had considered rehab, though Olivia knew he was just kidding. Still, she'd never seen a woman shop like her mother. That must be house she kept her figure, walking around all those stores and lifting all those items. Forget a gym, if Olivia wanted to get in shape, she'd go to the mall with her mother. That was a real workout.
Finally, after about fifteen minutes in the store, Olivia, her mother, and three bags worth of clothes for each child left the store. Seeing how tired her daughter was, Olivia's mom decided to be nice and allow her to wait in Starbucks while she finished up her shopping for the day. Olivia didn't waste a second and quickly hugged her mom goodbye and promised a make-up mother-daughter dinner later that evening. Olivia couldn't wait to reach her destination. Suddenly, there was a certain pep in her step as the familiar smell of caffeine lured her in.
The bell above the door dinged as Olivia pushed it open with the little bit of strength her arms possessed. She noticed the decent sized line of tired New Yorkers waiting on their coffee. Deciding she couldn't stand for another minute, Olivia walked, or drug herself, over to a table and collapsed into a chair. She rested her arms on the table for a few minutes and looked around. It was evident she wasn't the only person in the small place that would have preferred being back in bed. Olivia felt her eyes closing, but tried to resist it. Her mother would probably be back soon so there was no point in going back to sleep.

___________________________________________ It was around nine o’ clock in the morning when Caleb lazily and slowly opened his eyes as the sun peered through his window. Please tell me its past 12 o’clock he thought to himself as he slowly and painfully stretched his arm out to his night table trying to locate his watch without turning his body over. When he finally got a hold of it, he squinted to see where the hands were placed and was annoyed that time was still in the AM. Son of a bitch….he thought as he put his watch on his left wrist and secured it.
The night before Caleb went to the underground fighting around the subway and had a match with a guy that was probably close to being twice his size. He definitely rocked Caleb’s world a few times but because he was pretty big, he wasn’t as quick as Caleb which conclusively caused him to lose the match. Caleb was pretty relieved in the end, but was in a lot of pain and agony this morning. As he tried to pull himself up, his body was extremely sore and felt as if he was still in the fight. After about half a minute, Caleb was now sitting up and sighed.
It’s going to be a long day he said to himself as he tried stretching his arms, legs, torso, and neck. There were a lot of cracking noises here and there and it helped Caleb feel a little better, but he wasn’t healed completely. Pulling a towel off a nearby chair, Caleb walked over to the bathroom and showered and within minutes was out. He wrapped his towel around his waist and wiped his mirrors a little before taking a look at his face. He had a minor cut by his cheekbone and another cut on the right side of his bottom lip.
He took out an ointment that helped heal cuts and things like that and within about an hour later was dressed and headed out of the door. Caleb was headed to his usual pick-me up spot where he could read, think, and plan out his day or week for that matter, depending how quiet it was. He bought the newspaper on a nearby stand and walked across the street before he opened the door to the semi-full Starbucks. He bought himself a grande sized black coffee and sat a table away from register to avoid being annoyed by the sound of the register and people’s annoying voices.
A few minutes later Caleb was reading the sports section of the newspaper when he heard a pretty loud thud somewhere around him. Thinking someone fell or something, Caleb turned his neck and didn’t see anyone on the floor, but he did notice someone who had sat at the next table over whose head was down and whose body was all over the chair. Caleb raised his eyebrow a little and wondered if the person was ok. If there is no movement in a minute I’ll go poke them or something he thought to himself hating the idea of getting his body up. He flipped the page over and continued reading….

BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground As Olivia sat in her seat, she found it harder and harder to keep her eyes open. She had her face buried between her arms so she already couldn't see anything. The sweet aroma of coffee beans and fresh baked goods was putting her to sleep faster, which was opposite the normal effect that kind of stuff had on her. Her eyelids grew heavier and heavier and pretty soon she just gave up. Even if she could only sleep for a few minutes, that was better than nothing. Besides, who knew how long her mother would be. Olivia had free time and she was going to seize it. She slowly drifted off into a sleep, and the only movement was the easy paced breathing she was doing. As seconds passed, she drifted farther and farther off into sleep. She felt like she'd been awake for days, even though in reality it'd only been a few hours. Still, without proper preparation, a shopping trip in Manhattan could wear a person out, and Olivia was proof of this.
Olivia began to dream a few minutes after she drifted. It was nothing too serious, just random images and snippets in here head. Some dreams were random, like the one of Jersey Shore's Pauly D and Vinny mud wrestling, some were typical like the dream of her prom night, and some were a product of the way she was feeling, like the dancing donuts that kept appearing every few minutes. They were the end to every dream bit. They came and wiped away the pictures in her mind.
As the donuts danced in front of her yet again, Olivia's stomach gurgled. She hadn't eaten much for breakfast, simply because she was trying hard to stay awake during it, and all the walking had probably already burned the energy from her food. The delicious smell of various pastries wasn't helping her current situation either. She opened her eyes and let out a sigh. Part of her wanted to get up and get something to eat, but part of her didn't feel like pulling out her wallet, getting in line, and waiting. That part of her just wanted to sleep. That part seemed to be the one closest to her brain because she still couldn't convince her legs to get up and start walking. She was literally too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep.
Olivia's head was still on the table as she contemplated what she was going to do. She decided she was going to try going back to sleep when her phone vibrated. She groaned and finally lifted her head. She knew it had to be her mother, no one else would text her this early. Olivia grabbed her phone from her pocket and sighed as she confirmed her theory. She read her mother's text then replaced the phone. Her mother would be about another hour, so counting on her to bring Olivia something to eat wasn't likely to happen. Since she was already awake, Olivia reached into her wallet and grabbed a few bucks. The line had died down enough to where it shouldn't take too much time. She rose to her feet, adjusted her clothes and hair, then went and stood behind a man talking on his cell phone a little too loudly. She let out a yawn and stretched while she waited for her turn at the register.

___________________________________________ Caleb flipped the page to the funnies of the newspaper and laughed slightly at some of the cartoons. For some reason Caleb never really laughed a lot. Sure he chuckled here and there at his own jokes or others, but laughing out loud till you can’t breathe?...he couldn’t remember the last time he did that. His life was never so great where he could laugh out loud; well it was for about a year….but that no longer exists so Caleb is still alive, but not really living. He just does normal things that people do; go to school, work ( sort of) pay bills, etc…
Caleb’s life was always on the fast life, but someone who is observing from a far could say that he’s going nowhere fast. At times Caleb believes the same, but he wouldn’t know where to begin to get his life on the right track. His motivation was at an all time loss due to his past where he was shown that good things were never really meant to just happen to him. If he wanted something, he would have to fight long and hard to get it, but honestly, he was tired of fighting….
Just have to keep moving I guess he thought to himself as he looked over and noticed the girl’s thrown body on the table was now moving as she breathed. Damn, guess she’s just really tired, looks like she took a nasty beating with sleep last night and lost he thought to himself with a small laugh as he lifted his Grande coffee with 3 creams and 4 sugars. He sipped the last drop as he swallowed enjoying the hot liquid running down his throat. Time for a refill he thought to himself and before getting up noticed the girl getting up looking less than pleased to even stand in the small line of people waiting to get coffee as well.
Caleb smirked a little rubbing his index finger along his bottom lip before getting up to stand behind the girl to get a refill. “looks like someone had a pretty rough night last night” he said softly enough for her to hear as he looked straight ahead not shifting his eyes to her just yet. “I thought I was going to have to poke you with one of their straws to see if you were still conscious back there” he said with a slight smirk. Caleb was always a joker no matter where he was, only time would tell what kind of girl he had standing in front of him with her back turned to him...

BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground Olivia normally didn't mind standing in lines, so long as they weren't too long, but today was one of few days where her impatient side was starting to take over. She was exhausted and ready to sit down, but there were still three people ahead of her, including the man on the phone. Olivia had half the mind to say something, but one thing she learned about New Yorkers was that some of them could be very rude people, especially when interrupted by strangers. Still, she was fighting a very strong urge not to tap his shoulder and take his phone and dip it in someone's coffee. She didn't even have to listen to the conversation to know it wasn't about anything important. All she heard were fake laughs, a bunch of "uh-huhs", and a couple short sentences about things like the weather and dinner.
Olivia began rocking back and forth on her feet when the line finally progressed a little. She started walking and yawned, which caused her to keep walking until she ran into the man's back. When he turned around, all Olivia offered him was a "sorry" face, which was obviously far from sincere. She wasn't about to apologize to his rude behind. If anything, he needed to for disturbing her peace. At that moment, Olivia's pocket vibrated, but she didn't bother checking it. It was probably just her mother wanting to say hi or something. Her mom had a tendency to do that, especially with Olivia. It was like she could sense Olivia felt out of place in the family.
Olivia began thinking about her family, and everything she'd been through with them. They were really a great group of people, even her siblings, and she was grateful to have them in her life. Sometimes, they could almost make her forget about her real parents and her real brother, but she always found her biological family back in her thoughts again. She hadn't seen her mother or brother in years, but she'd visited her father a while back. She still blamed him for ruining everything, but she never told him that. He was all she had.
Olivia's thoughts about her family were broken by the words of a customer behind her. She hadn't caught everything, but she did hear him mention a rough night and poking her to see if she was alive. Olivia turned and was about to ask the boy who the heck he thought he was, but she thankfully she stopped her words. She looked up at the customer, who was kind of cute, and smiled. "Not really, more like a tough morning, and no need for the stick, I'm alive," she said, spreading her arms like she was demonstrating her liveliness for him. "Name's Olivia. And you are?" she asked, offering her hand for him to shake. She was a little old fashioned, but who cared. She didn't.

___________________________________________ As Caleb was looking over at the girl he did notice her nice body, he casually looked around then glanced up and down at her before turning back to the newspaper. Caleb loved cars as much as he did women, he always appreciated a fine body regardless of the make and this girl was no exception. He continued reading his newspaper as she decided to stand up and was finally able to look at her tired, but pretty face. For some reason, most of the girls that Caleb met had been brunettes or the girls that he’s been into at least.
Unlike most guys Caleb was n't fazed by the dumb blonde girls who have the looks but seriously lack the brains. He enjoyed a girl who was smart, for her own good, and good looking. Now Caleb isn’t saying that he’s a genius but he isn’t as dumb as he looks. He could probably get good grades in school and maybe go to university but it’s his efforts that kill all those possibilities. Caleb has lost most motivation to really succeed in anything but fighting. His grades are just barely allowing him to pass. As long as I pass that’s all that really matters he thought.
As Caleb made his way to the line he noticed the girl moving back and forth and accidentally bumping into the annoying broken record in front of her. He let out a small laugh hearing her sorry because it was evident that she wasn’t being sincere. The guy didn’t make it easier by looking back as if something horrible had happened, but then again, he was a tool in a suit. A rich guy who thinks he’s better than everybody else because he has the latest phone, designer clothes, and a whitened smile that he probably works on nightly before going to sleep. The coffee was only a plus to keep him awake throughout the day.
After Caleb spoke he noticed the girl quickly turn around and from her face expression, he thought his ear was going to get a mouthful, but that quickly changed. Caleb smirked a little at this thinking that she was interested and hey, he wasn’t complaining. He nodded at her ‘rough morning’ and responded “how could it already be bad this early?” curiously. Caleb laughed a little at her demonstration. “Looks like you’re cured” he said with a small smile. “I’m Caleb, do you go to Belmont Prep?” he asked wondering if perhaps he’d ever pass by her in the halls or something but didn’t notice, that would be a shame. Then again, he is rarely in school anyway so meeting new people at school wasn’t likely.

BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground As Olivia looked at the body and started to think maybe her morning wouldn't be too bad. She didn't have to do her homework or chores yet, she got some new stuff, and now she was meeting a new cute person while getting one of her favorite drinks. Mother daughter day suddenly didn't seem like such a bad idea. She couldn't deny the fact that he was cute, and while she had no intentions of trying to get with him, a little harmless conversation and flirting couldn't hurt. Olivia wasn't looking for a serious relationhip, she just wanted to have a little fun and companionship on this early Saturday morning. After all, her mother would probably be a while and she needed a way to pass her time.
Olivia laughed a little when Caleb asked how her morning was already rough. It was pretty early and it didn't seem like too much could've happened in the few hours most had been awake, but Olivia had been up for a good while. "Well, breakfast with tons of food I've never heard of and couldn't pronounce, hours of shopping in stores bigger than my house, and very little sleep," Olivia answered, a small smirk on her face. Olivia involuntarily giggled at his cured comment and his smile made her cheeks warm. "I guess so," was all she could say. If he kept smiling, Olivia was definitely going to enjoy this conversation.
Looking at Caleb, Olivia couldn't help but feel somewhat attracted to him. Something about him gave off a dangerous feel that seemed to draw her to him. She took quick glances at his body, which was very in shape, and wondered if he was a gym addict or some sort of athlete. Olivia barely heard his question being off in her own world. "Uhh, yeah. I'm a junior there," she replied, hoping he hadn't noticed her ditz moment. "Senior?" she asked, pointing at Caleb. She knew most all of her classmates and he wasn't one of them and he looked older than here, so that only left the senior class for him.

___________________________________________ Caleb rarely ever talked to strangers like this, even if they were female. In all honesty, they would be the ones to approach him and play the damsel in distress card or pretend they were doing something to get his attention. Caleb never complained though, because no matter how different every situation was they all ended the same way. He noted her checking him out and he didn’t mind, he was doing the same thing to her anyway. Looking starting from the head down but it wasn’t that long of a stare. Today didn’t seem like it would be too bad of a morning, heck maybe even a great day leading to the night. He smirked a little at her name being Olivia, seems like Olivia is a common name in Manhattan seeing as how the girl he is currently benefitting with is also named Olivia, Olivia Nichols. Only time would tell what would happen with this Olivia who seemed much different than the other.
Caleb nodded at her explanation laughing a little as well at the ‘foods she couldn’t pronounce’ bit. “So why would you do all of these things so early if it sounds like you preferred being in bed?” he asked. For Caleb it wasn’t a big deal waking up early, It was as if his body had an automatic clock to wake him up in the mornings and he just followed it and started his day. His many morning trips to Starbucks always helped him stay awake though. He smirked a little at Olivia’s guess that she was cured. “You can thank me later” he joked with a playful wink. Caleb was definitely the type of guy than enjoyed joking around with most if not all people, known or unknown. Flirting was a skill to him, and it hardly ever failed unless say the girl was a lesbian, and sometimes the outcome still wasn’t all that bad. He noticed Olivia spacing out a little, but really didn’t think anything of it, he figured she was probably still tired from the looks of it.
Before he was going to answer his class grade, he noted the line had moved and saw a guy who thought he was very smart stand up and make his way over to cut in front of Olivia and Caleb. Typical douchebag he thought to himself before stretching out his left arm brushing lightly against Olivia’s shoulder and placed his hand on the guy’s chest stopping him. “Hey buddy, call me crazy or something but I know you weren’t just trying to cut in front of this entire line just because you have a cheap suit and a imitation Rolex watch on, right? Because if you were I think you should reconsider” he said with a fake smile. The guy was thinner than Caleb and about the same height. He didn’t say anything, just nodded a little terrified, cheeks flushing and made his way to the back of the line. Caleb followed his gaze a little bit but then returned to make eye contact with Olivia making a nod gesture as if to say ‘let’s move up’ before someone else tried to be a wise guy.
“Sorry about that, but yeah I’m a senior, a very lazy senior, but I hope this year will really be my last, I’m so over the high school thing” he said with a slight laugh. It was true, Caleb’s actions rarely reflected his age. Back in California he would always hang with the older kids because of his maturity and confidence. They would look to him as a little brother, but a little brother who could understand and have no problem keeping his mouth shut about it. “So are you doing any other boring activities today, or was this your last stop?” he asked curiously before the Starbucks employee said “next customer please”. BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground As Olivia stood in Starbucks, she food feel herself waking up a little more. She could probably thank the smell of coffee in the air and the conversation she was now having for that. Boys always had effects of Olivia and Caleb was no different. He wasn't her usual type, but he was still attractive. Olivia let her eyes wander his body, particularly his muscles. He had a really nice body. Olivia wondered if maybe he was on some sort team that required a lot of weightlifting, like football or boxing. If there was every a break in the conversation she would have to remember to ask what he did to stay so fit. After a quick look at his arm muscles, Olivia diverted her eyes somewhere else. She didn't want to seem like the kind of girl that saw a cute guy and immediately threw herself at him. At this moment in her life, she didn't need to be throwing herself at anyone anyway. Caleb was just friendly morning conversation she reminded herself.
Olivia laughed at Caleb's question. It seemed like common sense thing for Olivia to be doing right now was sleeping. Sadly, her morning hadn't gone the way she wanted it to, but she wasn't complaining anymore. "Mom dragged me out to run around the city with her, then abandoned me," Olivia said, a small smile on her face. She wasn't too upset her mom left her. She was already sick of walking of the city and Olivia's mom seemed in no hurry to slow down and take a break. Olivia envied her mother's ability to stay going for hours of few hours of sleep. Her mother never ceased to amaze her with her various talents and skills. Olvia laughed when Caleb told her she could thank him later for curing her. "Thank you," she said, in a playful voice, his wink making her heart skip a beat. She really needed to get control.
Olivia felt something brush her shoulder and turned to see a man in a knock off suit trying to cut her. She was outdone with today's Starbucks customers. First the loud guy on the phone and now this jackass. Olivia was about to tap the man on the shoulder and tell him off when she heard Caleb's voice. She smirked a little when he was finished and the man walked away, clearly scared of the muscular boy behind Olivia. "The nerve of some people I swear," Olivia said to Caleb in an irritated voice once the man was in his rightful place. When the failed cutter looked back at Olivia with a less than friendly facial expression, she flipped him off. Her mother definitely wouldn't approve of that, but she didn't care. She was tired of dealing with people and their better-than-everybody attitudes. If everyone else could be rude, so could she.
Olivia looked back at Caleb as he motioned for them to move up. She followed his silent directions, closing the gap between herself and the customer in front of her. That way, no one could cut. She listened to Caleb revive their conversation that had been so rudely interupted. When he finished, Olivia spoke. "At least you're almost done. I've got a whole year left after this one," Olivia said, her sadness evident. She was so ready to get out of high school. "I'm hoping I'm doing any more boring activities, but with a mother like mine who knows?" Olivia answered, laughing a little. It was true her mother was a very spontaneous woman. She'd sprung this morning on Olivia and then randomly ditched her. There was just no telling with that woman.

___________________________________________ For Caleb, talking to strangers came easy, a little too easy to be clearer. Growing up from foster home to foster home had him dealing with plenty of people he never knew, and then again didn’t really care to know. Caleb spent the least amount of times in these homes as physically possible leading him to spend more time on the streets and public places where he would come across all kinds of people. Growing up he was never really the judgmental type especially because if he wanted to judge anyone, he could judge himself based on his past; an orphan who wasn’t loved or cared for being ditched from house to house until he did something crazy or stupid to make his foster parents upset and take him back. Rejection is something he knew far too well, and is something he never showed to others….unless they gave him a legit reason too.
Girls for one never rejected Caleb. His whole careless, bad boy, smart ass personality drew them in without much effort, and Caleb was more than grateful rather than to complain. He enjoyed the female company, always so promiscuous even if they didn’t want to be, it was safe to say his daring ways brought it out of them. Sometimes the girls were already promiscuous and he was just lucky to cross paths with them. Olivia, well this Olivia didn’t seem that way. She seemed like the type of girl who composed herself and only did things behind closed doors, if she was fully awake that is. She didn’t waste time on checking him out though, something that Caleb was just letting her admire as he stood there with a small smirk on his lips. His imagination ran a little wild too, something he would have to get out of his mind before she noticed him spacing out.
Caleb smiled a little as Olivia gave her explanation to her early ‘adventure’. The smile fading as she finished her statement, obviously joking, about her mom abandoning her. She wouldn’t know the first thing about it he thought to himself with a sympathetic laugh. “Yeah that really sucks, I’m guessing she wanted some bonding time without realizing you preferred bonding with your bed” he said with a light smirk. A sudden memory of one of his foster parents trying to wake him up for an early breakfast crossed his mind and he clearly remembered telling them to go….away, in a harsher tone and words. For Caleb, sleep was sacred, even though his body never allowed for too much, he just enjoyed being in a comfortable bed not having to be up standing, walking, or fighting, but just relaxing.
He gently nodded when she thanked him “oh, anytime” he said, his mind in the gutter yet again. This thought interrupted by the business guy who was getting involved at the wrong time. After Caleb eyes followed the idiot to the back of the line his attention went back to Olivia as she stated her opinion about the matter. “They think that just because they have money, they can do whatever the hell they want, something that is obviously not true, at least not for me” he said shaking his head lightly. Caleb followed her gaze and couldn’t help but laugh when she flipped him off. “Looks like we have a little badass on our hands, nice to meet you too” he said joking around. As he moved up with Olivia he continued listening to her.
“Yeah I guess, but after high school comes a bigger dose of the real world, something that I’m not looking forward too either” he said with a light sigh. Caleb didn’t know where he saw himself years from now, it bothered him a little just to think about it. “The time will fly and before you know it, you’ll graduate too, don’t worry” he said with a light shrug as Olivia stated that she didn’t know her plans for the rest of the day. “and telling your mom you rather relax a little and not let her worry about you and do something you want to do would be a bad thing?” he asked wondering if she was the kind of girl who followed all her parents rules, or lived her life by what she wanted to do.

BUT I CLOSED MY EYESsteadied my feet on the ground Standing here talking to Caleb, Olivia began to wonder if this was a regular routine for him. Was it normal for his to walk up to lonely girls and watch them swoon at his feet and admire his amazing body. Olivia was probably a little more conservative in her admiration than most girls. She took a few glances and eyed his arms occasionally, but she wasn't as touchy feely as some of the girls she knew. When it came to boys in general, Olivia was more of an admire from a distance type of girl anyway. She just wasn't really a very outgoing person. If Caleb hadn't approached her and struck up a conversation, she probably would be keeping to herself right now, not bothering to be social to anyone.
Caleb's smirk made Olivia's heart flutter a little. It didn't seem far for some people to be that good looking and that charming, without even trying to be. Olivia wondered if he knew just how right his words were. Though Olivia and her mom were pretty close, there were still some things that she didn't know about her daughter. How much Olivia valued her sleep was one of those things she had yet to figure out. Still, bonding was one of those things that Olivia didn't dare deny her mother. She wasn't sure how exactly her mom would react, but if she spent days eating ice cream in her pajamas and watched Telemundo, Olivia didn't think she'd be able to live with herself.
"Yeah, but it's only a couple of hours with mom. I think I can do that for her at least," Olivia said shrugging. Olivia would probably walk to across the country for her mom if she asked to. Olivia always felt like she owed her something. If it hadn't been for her, Olivia would probably be in some foster home back in New Jersey or maybe with some cruel family. She'd gotten lucky with the Ramos family and she was always reminding herself of that. Still, even though they were an amazing family to her, they could never replace her real family. They had a special place in her heart, even though they constantly broke it. She couldn't help this fantasy that one day everything would miraculously work itself out.
After the incident with the rich guy, Olivia was pretty much awake. Any sleepiness that was still in her body before had been replaced with anger than amusement as she watched the man move to the back of the line. After Caleb's explanation to the behavior of people like the man, Olivia could only shrug her shoulders, her silent way of saying "what can you do?" She couldn't but smile and blush at his badass comment. Grateful, it was finally her turn, she ordered and handed over her money to the cashier. She waited a few more seconds and let her cheeks return to normal then turned back to Caleb and picked up their discussion, which had shifted to school, while she waited for her drink.
"Well, I hope I like the real world more than school or I'm screwed," she told him, and it was obvious from her voice that she had high hopes that the real world was better than school world. She knew it'd be very different, but that's what she was hoping for. Too many times at school she felt out of place and she didn't want that for feeling for her life post-graduation. "I really hope you're right about that," she said in reply to his time flying comment. Caleb's next words kind of caught Olivia off guard. Was he actually suggesting she deny her mom something. Olivia had to realize that there was no way he could be aware of her situation so the comment was probably meant to be harmlessa advice to help Olivia avoid mornings like these. She simply nodded her head at him, grabbed her drink, and went back to sit down.
