_______________________________________ It was a regular saturday morning when Haley was woken up by her music alarm that was playing Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’. Rolling around in her bed she felt around for her phone until she got a hold of it and put it on snooze. Haley sighed as she slowly opened her eyes as she was facing the window that had the sun beaming through it. She felt pretty groggy about waking up and decided her first stop would be to get some breakfast along with a cup of coffee and then she would figure out what to do for the rest of the day.
Sitting up on her bed Hales let out a yawn and stretched her arms out as her stiff back stretched as well releasing some cracks making Haley’s body feel a little better. Much better she thought to herself as she slid the covers off of her body and stood up walking around her room lazily. Haley grabbed her towel before making her way to the shower and exited minutes later. She walked out placing some lotion on her arms and next proceeding to place some on her legs and thighs as well. Looking clean and smelling good was always a must for Haley because she hated being in public areas and being able to smell people bad body odor.
Like any other girl, Haley’s dresser was filled with different body sprays, lotions, creams, make-up, etc… She sat on her chair beginning to put a touch of makeup, not anything too dramatic, just some light brown eye shadow and mascara knowing that breakfast was hardly anything to get too dressed up for, especially if she would be doing it alone. Most of her friends were probably still in their bed not even close to waking up so instead of waiting for them to wake up or calling them up to get them out of bed, she just preferred doing things on her own time.
Haley walked downstairs wearing this outfit and grabbed her purse on the way out. As she walked out she pulled her car keys from her purse and was about to unlock it and get into the driver’s seat, but instead she decided the weather wasn’t so bad for a walk. Haley tossed her car keys in her purse and pulled out her ipod as she plugged it into her ears and turned it on placing it on shuffle. Minutes later she was passing by the baoguette café and looked into the window to see if there was a long line of people who had the same idea to get breakfast there.
As she looked around she locked eyes with someone who she thought was her ex-boyfriend looking right at her. What the!?!?!? She thought as she squinted her eyes a little to try to get a better look. In shock Haley kept her gaze on this identical person without watching where she was walking and ended up running into someone walking the opposite way throwing her body back a little as she dropped her purse and her ipod. “Oh my-“ she started as she turned her head from facing sideways to looking straight at the person she ran into. “Crap, I’m really sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going, sorry” she said as she quickly bent down to quickly try to pick up some things that fell out of her purse.

His blue eyes trailed over the green numbers on the glowing alarm clock. 6:36 am. It was the third day in a row he’d awoken at this hour, and the third day in a row in which he hadn’t been able to get back to sleep. It wasn’t like he needed to get up any time before lunch. He owned and worked in his bar, so his shift started around seven pm, and finished just after three am. Of course he had staff to help out, so if he wanted to get away early or have a night off that was fine; but it wasn’t like he had much else going for him. He didn’t have a girlfriend, he had finished his studies almost a year ago, and most of his real friends had left the city to pursue other avenues and the rest of the world. Seb didn’t really have that option; not if he stuck by his word and made his own money. Of course he could always sponge off his father; but that wasn’t what he was like. He believed in hard work, and since his football career ended suddenly, he’d come to the conclusion this mundane life was how he existed.
Nevertheless he was hungry, and so reluctantly he kicked back the covers and rolled out of bed. He yawned loudly and glanced out of the large window through the curtains that hung in his bedroom. His apartment overlooked central park so it was a good location and cost an awful lot of money; but it was the only thing the young entrepreneur had bought himself so he was proud of it, and always kept it spotless. He moved through the minimalist rooms which he only added to when he could afford it; so right now his beautiful apartment only contained the essentials. Seb showered, enjoying the refreshing water fall over his face and dance over his body. He washed his hair and body and stood there for a few moments contemplating his options for breakfast; he had food in, but he fancied something a little special, so his decision was made to treat himself to eating out.
He pulled on a pair of D&G jeans, dark blue in colour, over a pair of CK black boxer shorts. He grabbed an off white Diesel polo shirt, and pulled it over his toned torso. Seb pushed his feet into a pair of white canvas sneakers. He grabbed a few bits like his cell and wallet and made his way out into the fresh air. It didn’t take him long to get to where he wanted to go; a small café what did the best croissants in miles. He was walking along, minding his own business, checking his cell phone, when someone bang smacked straight into him. His phone shot out of his hand and hit the pavement; the screen instantly cracking. But that wasn’t Seb’s main concern; the girl had dropped her purse which had dispersed along the pavement. She apologised but her words just made him smile; she was stunning. He bent down to help her pick things up, and to retrieve his cell, only that didn’t work too well either as he bumped heads with the beautiful brunette. ”Sorry!” Seb laughed as he picked up a few things from her purse and handed them to her. Then picked up his cell and began inspecting the cracks. He sighed deeply; because he knew right at this moment he couldn’t afford to get it fixed. Seb stood up, and pushed the phone into his pocket, he offered her his hand to help her up off of the floor. ”I’m Seb, nice to… urm… bump into you.” He smirked awkwardly. Maybe this was fate; maybe it was why he’d been made to get up early. ”I was just going to grab something to eat; you wouldn’t want to… join me would you?” He was quite outgoing, and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for him to invite a random stranger for food or drinks. But this girl was pretty, and he wasn’t going to miss any chances.

_______________________________________ Haley took a relaxing breathe as she began her walk, positive almost that today would be a good day seeing as how it was already off to a good start. 3 Doors Down’s ‘When you’re young’ was blaring through her headphones as she crossed the street walking away from her house. It was safe to say that Haley had random taste in music because her ipod consisted of songs from Britney spears, to slipknot, followed by 50 cent, to 30 seconds to mars, etc… Hales enjoyed music that had a good beat, meaningful lyrics, or described her current mood in any situation. One genre she wasn’t a big fan of was country and that was only because she could never see herself incorporating a country song in her style of dance or being able to hear it for more than fifteen seconds.
A few minutes later she was by the café and was startled at even thinking that her ex-boyfriend was in a public place, nonetheless a place that didn’t have bars that kept you away from the outside world. Before she could try to get away, there was another problem; she accidentally ran into someone else by her distraction. Her hand collided against the strangers toned stomach causing her grip on her ipod to let loose allowing it to drop on the pavement. After apologizing she figured the New Yorker would continue on his way allowing her to collect her things so she immediately tried to save her ipod but then felt an impact against her head and saw the stranger, a guy, right in front of her apologizing and laughing a little.
“Ouch…” Haley said softly letting out a light laugh at their unfortunate luck, or perhaps it was just hers “it’s okay, at least your helping me fix my mess, most people would have just walked by not making it their problem” she said as he handed her some of her stuff. Finally being able to see his face rather than his body or head Haley had to admit he was definitely attractive. Haley looked back down and picked up her ipod noticing a crack splitting right down the middle of her ipod Great... she thought to herself not wanting to show that it really bugged her. Haley saw the strangers hand and placed her hand in his allowing him to help her up.
Before he got another word out it hit Haley as to why this happened in the first place, her ex. She looked back at the café not seeing anyone looking at her anymore and she took a quick glance around the sidewalk. Her nerves crept up on her as she looked back to face the stranger who was introducing himself. She laughed a little at his introduction and gave a slight nod. “I’m Haley, nice bumping into you too” she said joking back letting out a small smile. It was a little…coincidental that they both were grabbing breakfast in the same area.
Haley wouldn’t have denied his offer before because meeting new people and hanging out might as well been a hobby for Haley, but since then she kind of kept herself closed off from new people. “Uh…” she started to say about to gently turn him down, but it hit her. The same reason as to why she cut people off is the same reason this happened, so in case she did see her ex, she didn’t want to be caught alone. Her attitude completely changed as she smiled a little and nodded. “well I guess it would be less of a wait if we took up one table rather than two, so why not?” she said accepting his offer swinging her purse around her shoulder. “Were you going into this café or somewhere else?” she asked trying to figure out what direction they would be headed for to eat....

Seb hadn’t exactly expected his morning to go the way it had done, but he wasn’t exactly complaining. It was rare that he met anyone outside of work, mainly because in New York everyone was so busy, and he worked unfriendly hours. It was even rarer for Seb to meet a girl; especially a pretty one. Granted she had accidently ran into him, but nevertheless she was speaking to him… sort of. He was New York born and bred but Seb didn’t see why people had to be so rude, and so he naturally volunteered to help her collect her things. People stepped around the two as he reached to catch things which were beginning to roll away. He was surprised at how jumpy she seemed at first; maybe she’d been trying to lose someone in the crowd; he wasn’t sure, nor was it any of his business. He wasn’t going to ask her and so he shrugged the thoughts away and focused on the task in hand.
She laughed as she commented on the pain as their heads collided, and then spoke about the other people of the city. ”Yeah well; I’m no knight in shining armour, but I can help out a damsel in distress.” He laughed, and shook his head. ”Yeah that was corny… you’ll have to forget I actually said that.” Seb laughed at himself, it was a good quality to have in his opinion because it just made things in life a lot easier. ”But seriously, most people in New York are too busy to remember what day it is.” He smirked glancing at her iPod. ”Snap; my phones cracked too.” He told her curtly, ”Such a pain in the ass. Knowing my luck; the whole thing will malfunction.” It was kind of true, Seb didn’t have the best luck with technology. It had taken him ages to learn how to use his iPhone and now it was cracked, he really needed to give it up.
He helped her up with ease, but instantly noticed that she began to look back as if she was searching for someone. He followed her gaze before she looked back at him. Not that he knew her, but he couldn’t help but wonder if she was on edge. She introduced herself and smiled at him, returning his awkward non-funny joke. ”Yeah… Haley… sorry about your iPod… “ He offered, although it was technically her fault she’d dropped it since she bumped into him. But maybe if he’d been paying attention, he’d have been able to avoid her. Never mind; it wasn’t the end of the world; just a decent fee to get his phone fixed, but who knows where the chance encounter would lead him. He’d heard about this sort of thing before; day time TV sucked, it always had useless bits of information on it. He remembered seeing some chat show host talk about a couple who’d met at random, by a chance encounter when they’d bumped into each other at a market. Now this wasn’t a market, and he didn’t suppose Haley would end up being his girlfriend; but still it was thought provoking. It also proved to him that he watched too much day time TV and needed to get a hobby.
She began to speak and he figured she would turn him down, but she paused and nodded; changing her answer he suspected. She gave a dyer excuse and he laughed at how poor it was, if she really didn’t want to have breakfast with him she just had to say. She may just have been flirting but he wasn’t sure. He couldn’t really read Haley or for that matter, many women well. He doubted his abilities since he found out his ex was a lesbian; he thought he’d known her pretty well. ”Yeah… or you could just… you know, enjoy my company.” He smirked shrugging his shoulders. He wasn’t exactly going to force her to be his friend but he would hope they’d at least be able to have breakfast together. He nodded as she asked about the café. ”Yeah; they do like, the best pastries and breads in the world… well except maybe a bakers in Paris…” He laughed slightly, leading the way to the café which was full of busy for this time of the morning.

_______________________________________ Breakfast, Laundry, Rehearse, and hang out with friends was how Haley figured her day would go. Fifteen minutes later all those ideas were simply scattered in her head due to the recent unexpected events. My life is never really normal she thought to herself wondering why things like this happened to her. Was her ex really by the window? It couldn’t be, he was supposed to be locked up for the next two years, but then again convicts do find ways to escape sometimes. You’re over thinking it Haley thought to herself again as she finished grabbing her things. Haley was a klutz at times so seeing people walk around her things without even offering to pick up something to help her came as no surprise to her. The gentleman helping her however, did. She rubbed her head a little at the area that had collided against the guys head. She laughed a little showing that she wasn’t in dire pain or anything, but it did help keep her mind off her current worry. Haley heard Seb’s response about being the damsel and a smirk followed by a laugh followed.
“Yeah…1920 just called and they want their pick-up line back” she joked. Seb laughed at himself and that only made this situation less awkward proving that he didn’t take himself too seriously to a point where he could relax and allow himself to be, well….himself. Haley nodded at his comment about her having to forget “honestly, that just might have been the highlight of my day so far so I can’t make any promises” she retorted with a playful ‘I don’t know’ shrug as Seb started talking about the people of New York. “Tell me about it, I think most of these people would be hopeless if they didn’t have their PDA’s or cell phones, or ipads or whatever else they use to help them be more robotic. They’d walk around like chickens without heads” she said with a light laugh imagining some doing just that. Haley’s opinions were always strong and straight from the core. She never sugar coated anything for anyone, not even her friends, but that’s what people liked about her, well…some people. People who didn’t like honesty weren’t the kind of people Haley hung out with.
She stopped all her thoughts when she heard Seb said his phone cracked, guessing that he was on it when they bumped into each other, that made Haley feel really bad knowing it was her fault for not looking where she was going. “Are you serious? Dammit, I’m really sorry, look after breakfast we can figure something out, I’ll pay for it to be replaced” she said with a nod already deciding she would. Haley never liked debt, if someone ever lent her money, and that rarely happened since she rarely asked, she would either pay them back within a week or give them more if it took a little longer, she hated the feeling of knowing she owed someone something. She preferred being debt free so there would never be any complications about money with anyone. “No I definitely think it’s me, my bad luck saw you in its path and decided to engage and destroy” she said shaking her head a little as she looked around. “You have nothing to be sorry about, I’m the one that caused this mess so at least you’re not the only one with a broken piece of technology” she said with a light sigh.
Haley figured she would have to pick up a few extra shifts to pay for a new ipod and fix Seb’s phone, the perks of being a klutz. Haley didn’t mean to give such a lame excuse to accept Seb’s offer, but it was the first thing to pop out of her mind instead of telling him the whole ‘well at first I was going to deny your offer but right now I don’t want to be alone' bit. Of course he knew it was just as corny as his joke though. Haley smiled a little about his company comment. “You know, it’s so crazy it just might work” she said as she began to walk towards the door of the café with him as he commented about their food. “I’ve had their pastries a few times, definitely no complaints here” she said with a laugh. During the week Haley barely had time to breathe so eating out wasn’t something she did often. Haley heard Seb compare the café to one in Paris. He’s been to Paris? She thought to herself as they walked in wondering what kind of guy Seb really was….

Seb awkwardly scratched the back of his neck and avoided her eyes as his cheeks flushed slightly. ”Ouch! That hurt.” He joked shaking his head as he brought his hand back to his side. He grinned at the girl, pleased she had a sense of humour. Some people in New York were so stuck up these days they didn’t let themselves laugh, but Haley seemed different. He smiled at her and shrugged his own shoulders, ”Okay, well you’re gonna have to do something embarrassing to make me feel better.” He told her in a matter of fact sort of way. He nodded at her summary of the city’s population. ”Yep, everything’s too centred around technology these days. It took me weeks to learn how to use my iPhone.” He realised quickly that he was perhaps being a little too open with the girl who he didn’t know. She probably wouldn’t appreciate his humour or lack of it as the case may be.
Haley apologised to him, which was definitely not the reaction he’d expected or wanted. He shook his head and raised his hand shaking off her responsibilities. ”Seriously, it’s okay… no biggie. I don’t use it too much anyway.” He shrugged his shoulders. He really didn’t want her paying to get his phone fixed. He owned a bar, and his family were well off; he could always ask them to pay for his cell if things became difficult, but his cell phone wasn’t that important to him. He had a land line which he could call out from. It wasn’t a huge problem in his opinion. Plus he had no idea how financially secure the stranger was, and he wasn’t about to have her pay out the money that she may need. He wasn’t that sort of guy; he didn’t believe in the type of culture which sued. Seb smiled at her as she explained she had bad luck, ”Your pretty funny.” He smirked, he appreciated her humour. ”Yeah, well I was in a world of my own too… I’m part to blame.” Seb shrugged his shoulders and cocked his head to the side slightly.
He smirked playfully as she implied his suggestion was a little crazy. ”Come on Haley… just relax.” He told her as he opened the door for her. He smiled and waved at the waitress who stood behind the counter filling a cup with coffee. ”She makes a good cup of coffee.” He told Haley, as he took his usual seat, a quiet seat with two chairs and he lifted a menu. The waitress behind the counter eyed him playfully; she was also a waitress at his bar, and a girl he’d known for a long time. He’d gone to school with her, and so she knew him and was somewhat surprised that he was having breakfast with a girl. He flicked through the menu, already deciding what he wanted, but it was habitual.
”What are you having?” He asked Haley almost expecting her to have chosen already even though she’d only just sat down. The café played some quite cultural music on a morning, nothing overly loud or stimulating which was probably what a lot of people needed this time of morning, but today Seb could have done with something a little more active. The interaction with Haley had definitely woken him up. He glanced over the brunette and smiled, ”So are you a student or do you have a job?” He asked her bluntly, more than aware that his body language was being watched by his friend. He laughed slightly and shook his head before turning to the place where the girl stood, he shook his hand and felt his cheeks blush. ”Sorry… she’s an old friend, and she works for me. I think she thinks were on a date.” He informed Haley trying to explain why his cheeks were flush and he was acting awkwardly. ”You ready to order?” He asked her curiously.

_______________________________________ After Haley said her joke, she noticed how immediately uncomfortable Seb seemed. Way to make him feel like less of a man Haley embarrassedly thought to herself. She laughed a little “I’m only teasing, I rather you have helped and said that than not helped at all” she said with an encouraging nod. Haley didn’t mean to embarrass him like that, they were both joking so she didn’t think her joke would hurt his pride or anything. It was a part of her sense of humor so she figured since he didn’t know her all that well, he wasn’t aware of how playful she was. Hales let out another nod of understanding when he said she would have to do something embarrassing as well. “Ooohh trust me, with the kind of klutz I am chances of me doing something embarrassing are at about 90% so no worries there” she said with a light laugh, although it was kind of true.
Haley smiled at his light confession about the iPhone; she didn’t think a stranger would openly admit something like that but so far Seb seemed to be different than the average robot of a New Yorker. “Yeah, I remember getting my first cell phone when I was 15? Now I see little kids with phones and my thought is what could they possibly need a cell phone for?” she said with a light laugh. Haley didn’t see the need for parents to buy their ten-year olds a cell phone when pay phones and landlines still exist. She still felt bad about his phone because if she had been paying attention she would have walked around him so they wouldn’t have collided at all, she wasn’t one to beg but she knew he was being a gentleman. “Are you sure?” she said giving him that ‘don’t like to me’ look to see if he wasn’t upset about the phone at all. Sure Haley would have to work a little extra to get the money but what’s right is right, right?
“Thanks, I try.....oh and you're not so bad yourself” she said with a light shrug and small smile when he complimented her humor. Laughing was one of the small things Haley enjoyed doing, the world was way too short to not appreciate the good days right after you have bad ones, and before a few months ago, a lot of days were bad for Haley. She smirked a little at his attempt to blame himself too “don’t you dare make this about you, ok? It’s my fault, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it” she said with a serious face and then laughed again, joking. As Seb opened the door he told her to relax, even though the ‘crazy’ phrase was also a playful joke, the word relax was a word Haley heard many different times, but in two different tones. Seb’s tone was calming and soothing, the other tone Hales heard it in was in an annoyed and harsh tone from her ex. Haley gave a small smile but it was more of a smile to herself, a half-smile. Even though Seb didn’t really know her past, a part of him was right. Haley should relax knowing the fact that things could only get better for her from now on.
“All right, I’ll relax” she said with a nod as they walked in being greeted by a waitress who looked happy to see them…or Seb at least. Haley smiled and nodded a little as his comment about the girl making coffee. “Hmm is that all she’s good at?” Haley playfully asked noticing the girl’s mood changing as soon as she saw Seb walk in. She followed Seb to a table and opened the menu going to the breakfast side and examining what they had. A second later Haley’s lifted her head up as Seb asked her what she was having “Oh, uh not sure yet, everything looks pretty good right about now” she said with a light laugh meaning that she was pretty hungry. ”What are you having?” she asked wondering if perhaps she’ll get the same since Seb seemed to come here quite often so he'd know what was really good and what wasn't. She placed a hand on her neck as she looked back down at the menu before he asked her another question.
“Both, I’m a junior at NYU and work at the bottino restaurant part-time” she said with a nod not trying to sound like she was bragging or anything. “What about you?” she asked curiously to find out if he was the kind of guy that was wealthy enough to afford trips to Paris for fun or was the kind that worked his butt off to afford a ticket to go to Paris once. Haley raised an eyebrow a little at his awkward behavior before he explained himself. She heard his explanation and nodded letting out a light laugh Old friend? Really? She thought to herself. Either this guy was trying to bullsh** his way through an awkward situation or this was just a coincidence. “Were you two involved or anything to a point where I might have to leave before she poisons my food?...because if you were I have easy access to the exit door” Haley asked and replied slightly joking about the leaving part. Date? Haley thought again. It’s been a while since Haley’s been on an actual date so the fact that he even brought up that word made her feel…awkward? "Has she seen you here with a lot of girls before?" she asked wondering if maybe thats why she thought they were on a date. This thought temporarily stayed in the back of her head as he asked if she was ready to order. “Uh yeah, I’ll have the French toast with a chai tea latte” she said with a nod hoping that it would satisfy her stomach.

Seb smiled at Haley, he couldn’t help but be slightly reserved at times. He was at times a little shy, some of it genuine, some of it a play to help girls like him. He had been used to getting attention when he was at school, but things changed and Seb was no longer a football star. It wasn’t that he wasn’t a popular guy. He got attention from women, but it was usually drunken customers who didn’t appeal to him in the slightest. So he used his humour and combination of apparent shyness as a way of making him seem somewhat sensitive. He kind of was, but he could also be quite cold. He nodded as she encouraged his actions. ”Haley, I wouldn’t have stepped around you. I’m not that kind of guy.” He told her shrugging his broad shoulders slightly, he didn’t want her thinking he’d only done it because she was pretty or that he wanted something more from her than she was prepared to offer. A grin developed across Seb’s complexion. ”Good… I look forward to it.” He chuckled slightly deciding if she did do something funny it would help them b0nd better.
He listened to her thoughts on kids and cell phones, she was right. His friend’s son was only ten and he had a cell phone. He didn’t see the purpose. The only numbers the boy would have were his parents. ”Yeah, it’s strange. Kids aren’t kids anymore. They grow up before they need to.” Seb was convinced that when he was a parent, he wouldn’t allow his child to turn into a ten year old adult. He’d want them to enjoy the things children should enjoy; careless play. Not that he could really imagine himself with a family. It wasn’t that he didn’t want one, because he did, but he didn’t think he’d meet someone he could trust enough. Nevertheless that wasn’t an issue for him right now. She questioned him about the phone and he shook his head. ”Seriously, don’t worry. I’ll get it sorted if I need to. A crack on the screen is nothing.” He smiled not really fussed about it, but then an idea popped into his head. ”But I guess you could always give me your cell number… you know just in case I need to erm… get in touch.” He smirked sheepishly, a mischievous grin dancing across his face.
He nodded as she thanked him for the compliment. ”I have quite a dry sense of humour; not many people get it.” He told her with a light shrug of his shoulders, he was pleased that she able to laugh. It was one of his favourite hobbies, laughing was the best stress reliever ever. It helped that Seb’s customers were hilarious when they were drunk. He didn’t take himself too seriously, there was no point. Life was definitely too short to remain serious all of the time. That, and the worry he’d end up like his father if he was. She warned him and then joked and he rolled his eyes, a gentle smile casting across his lips. ”Okay, okay… I’ll let you take all the credit.” He was of course joking too, he knew it had been an accident. True, it probably could have been avoided but where was the fun in that. They were talking now, and his day had taken a very different turn.
The brunette agreed to his terms, and they found their seats in the café. Haley made a playful joke about the waitress he referred to and Seb frowned curiously, She probably is… I don’t know.” He stated shrugging his shoulders and focusing back on the menu, even though his decision had already been made. He hadn’t really had breakfast with anyone in such a long time, it was strange but perhaps comforting. Usually he woke up too late and just stuck with lunch, and if he’d had a one night stand, he usually left before the girl woke up. It was very rare he ever brought anyone back to his apartment. He looked up as she answered his question, and nodded; ”Yeah, they do some pretty good things.” He agreed and shrugged his shoulders leaning back in her chair. She asked him what he was having and he grinned, ”I’m having a short stack… or maybe just croissants. I don’t know yet.” He mused as he bit his bottom lip. He’d most likely go for the short stack; pancakes were always a favourite.
Things seemed to be going well, they were both talking; interacting and so he was smiling. He listened to her and he nodded as she told him she was a student; which probably meant she was younger than him. It always worked. ”Cool. I went to NYU. Graduated about… maybe coming up nearly two years ago…. I was a business major.” He admitted, trying to figure out when he finished school- it seemed so long ago. ”I own a bar… it’s called the Loft but most people just call it Seb’s.” He told her nodding slightly, he wasn’t showing off in any respect because in all fairness his bar wasn’t going all that well these days… the recession had made things difficult. She questioned his relationship with the waitress and Seb laughed, ”No way! She’s practically like my sister. I went to school with her. She dated my best friend the whole time, but he moved to England with his family… we stayed friends after school, and now she works here on a morning and in my bar three or four nights a week. She definitely wont poison you… but you might get extra portions.” He laughed shaking his head. He thought about her question for a moment and shook his head, ”Nope, I usually don’t get up early enough to have breakfast; I don’t usually get off work till three am. But I don’t date very often… I’m not too good with women.” He shrugged laughing slightly, way to go Seb- make yourself sound like an idiot!- he thought shaking his head. ”Do you often have breakfast with strange men?” He asked returning the question with a smirk on his lips. She told him her order and he nodded at a waiter milling around nearby. Seb ordered her food, and ordered himself a stack of pancakes with maple syrup and a cappuccino.

_______________________________________ Haley did believe that this guy was nice, but was it how he really was or was he just putting up a front to maybe try to get her in his bed later; something that Haley never did…..well not since high school. But things change and Haley definitely changed in the past 2-3 years. She smiled a little when Seb said he wasn’t that kind of a guy. Haley has always believed talk is cheap, but Seb did in fact prove that he wouldn’t walk around in a situation like that, even if his phone suffered the consequences because of it. “Well you definitely proved that to me” she said with a slight nod and soft eyes. She couldn’t deny it, so for the time being she would put Seb under the good guy category. She put her brain aside and stopped thinking as she let out a laugh when he said he would be looking forward to her making a fool of herself. “I bet you would just love that” she said playfully rolling her eyes.“What is it with guys not being comfortable with getting embarrassed in front of females?” she asked curiously.
It was true, at times if guys slipped up somehow they would act as if it was the end of the world, Haley normally just shrugged it off, but the guys never did. She completely agreed however on Seb’s comment about kids. “That they do, especially with shows they have now on MTV and things like that, censorship now is only an option” she said shaking her head lightly. Before they would censor the smallest thing, and now they would barely censor anything. It got Haley thinking a little bit to how extreme it would be if and when she had kids. She nodded at Seb’s assurance of his phone. A crack on the iphone screen is nothing? He must have a good job she thought to herself before continuing the conversation. “Okay, if you say so” she said letting the situation go and then hearing his other line about her number. She laughed a little bit, a light blush flushing her cheeks, once again it’s been a while since a guy asked for her number. “Was that another line mister?” she said slightly raising an eyebrow. Either this guy was really cheesy, or good at his game, only time would tell.
Haley laughed a little not sure of exactly what to respond to his “suggestion” though. “We’ll see if I think it’s necessary later” she said simply. Maybe this is the way Seb got a lot of numbers, but Haley hated being the typical girl to fall for the charming guy because it never ended well, her guard was up since Trevor so she wouldn’t allow herself to be that naïve again. She nodded fully understanding his sense of humor. “Yeah, I know what you mean, at times I could be joking but people either think I’m serious or don’t get the joke, it’s one of my embarrassing moments where you hear the crickets chirping” she said with a light laugh slightly embarrassed that she told him that. “But, it’s good to know that you get it, seems like the crickets are on vacation right now” she joked “yeah, that was bad, ignore that last statement” she said as she pulled her hair back with her fingers trying to avoid her cheeks turning pink or something. She smiled when he said she could take all the credit. “I do like to win” she said proudly with a small shrug acting as if she was used to it.
Haley was a little shocked that her day took this kind of turn. She was relaxed at first, then startled and worried and now she was….at ease. She tried remembering the last time she laughed as much as she was now and couldn’t quite put her finger on it. She smirked again playfully rolling her eyes, it seems Seb didn’t get her joke/insinuation. Haley smiled a little before looking back at the menu and agreeing with him when he said the café had good things. “Oh ok” Haley said to his selection wondering if she might get it. It did surprise Haley how well she got along with this stranger. She glanced up at him as he pondered about his selection, he was really attractive but Haley was almost sure a lot of girls felt the same way making it easy for him to take his pick at who he wanted. When she heard he went to NYU, she was a little taken back that she never saw him. “Really? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you there, but then again I’m always on the run” she said with an honest shrug. “I’m majoring in business and have a minor in dance” she said with a small smile.
Owns a bar? Wow, he must have good money coming in she thought to herself. Who didn’t enjoy going out on the weekends and drinking the bars dry nowadays? “I guess NYU taught you well” she said crossing her arms wondering if she would own anything when she got out. It would be cool if she owned a dance studio. “That’s cute, Seb’s, I’m guessing Seb is short for Sebastian?” she said just making sure, seeing as how she never really knew anyone who called themselves Seb. Haley couldn’t help but giggle at his instant reaction about the coworker. She found it a little humorous how he had to explain the situation. “Ok ok, I definitely believe you, don’t worry” she said in between a laugh. Hales nodded when he said he doesn’t wake up that early because of his work schedule, it made sense so no point in questioning it. When he said he wasn’t good with women, that put a red flag in Haley’s mind. “Yeah right, you not being good with women is like David Beckham saying he isn’t good at soccer, let’s be real” she said looking right at him with a ‘come on’ look. “Strange men? No I can’t say that I have, normal men who act all innocent and shy, eh a few times” she said referring to him. Breakfast just got a lot more interesting….

Seb smirked playfully as Haley suggested that no guys were comfortable being embarrassed in front of women, it was kind of true. He hated being embarrassed in front of females. It just wasn’t cool. ”Well I guess it’s because when guys are around pretty girls, and they look like an idiot… and get embarrassed then the girls less likely to find them attractive.” He reasoned as he touched his hair slightly, musing as to whether or not she’d believe him. He was attracted to her, that much was obvious. He guessed she’d know guys liked her, unless of course, she had some strange altered perception of herself. His eyes graced her lips and her eyes as she spoke. He hadn’t kissed anyone in a while… he had the urge to kiss her. But he knew he was playing the nice guy and nice guys didn’t jump in like players.
He laughed slightly at Haley’s MTV analogy. He didn’t really watch MTV too much but he saw her point. There was barely anything censored these days, and when most kids spoke; every second word was a swear word. It just wasn’t right. Granted Seb swore, and he’d not exactly been a model teenager; going against his parent’s wishes and choosing sport and then business rather than law; but he wasn’t really a bad guy. Despite the fact he was dealing drugs… but he had no other choice at the moment, and it was only a temporary thing… his gut sunk with guilt as the thought of drugs passed through his mind. He hated the fact that it was his way of staying afloat. She laughed at his comment about the number, and she blushed a little. Seb grinned, ”Yeah… I guess that was another line. I’m full of cheesy chat up lines today… you’ll have to forgive me. I’ve been out of the game for a while.” He laughed awkwardly as he scratched the back of his neck; a nervous tick.
He nodded, clearly he’d been blown off. He felt awkward and shrugged his shoulders and shook his head instinctively. ”Don’t worry. You don’t have to… it was just a suggestion.” He didn’t want things to turn awkward, but perhaps it was only him making it that way. He hadn’t been with a girl in some time, perhaps it was time to have a one night stand… but they weren’t satisfying. He always left feeling fed up. It really wasn’t how sex was meant to feel. But luckily Haley kind of got the conversation back on track, talking about their sense of humour. It was good they kind of seemed like they were on the same path when it came to humour. He enjoyed talking to people who had dry senses of humour it always made the conversation a little more interesting. ”Crickets chirping?” He asked laughing slightly. ”Yeah or tumble weed.” He indicated recalling the cartoons which used the blowing tumble weed as a sign of bad humour. But her next line caused him to splutter a laugh out. ”Oh wow… that line was bad… I think you may have just won in being corny.” He smirked shaking his head.
Haley questioned him about NYU, and he shrugged his shoulders, ”I left there over a year ago; maybe we didn’t go at the same time.” He shrugged his shoulders, ”You do?” Seb asked as she told him about her major and minor. ”I would have definitely remembered you if I’d ran into you… dance and business are quite different.” He suggested running a hand through his hair. He glanced over her body, she definitely had a dancers body; he loved a slender physique. ”Which do you prefer?” He asked her curiously wondering whether or not she had her head in the business game. It was surprising how much they had in common.
Seb cocked his head to the side and smiled. ”I guess it did.” He told her calmly. Seb shrugged his shoulders as she told him that the name of his bar was cute… or maybe that his name was cute. He laughed slightly as she questioned what his name was. ”Yeah Seb’s short for Sebastian. Sebastian’s my middle name.” He admitted, his eyes focused back on the menu because he kind of didn’t want to tell her his name. ”Good!” He bit his bottom lip as she laughed and he fought a smile. She questioned him and looked straight at him. Seb felt quite defensive. ”Yeah right… I am being real. My ex turned out to be a lesbian… I kind of sworn off women for a while.” Seb admitted feeling a little uncomfortable. He leaned back in his chair and shrugged his shoulders. ”Yeah… sorry.” Seb bit his bottom lip and looked at her gently, ”Sorry… I urm… I’m just not too good with girls.” Seb admitted. He smiled as she made a comment referring to him, she was just so nice. And now he felt like a jerk.
Their food arrived, and Seb began to take a drink of his coffee. ”Nice.” He stated as he sat it down on the table. ”So will your boyfriend not be mad that your having breakfast with me?” He asked her curiously.

_______________________________________ Haley nodded a little at Seb’s reasoning about embarrassing moments “yeah that could be true, but at the same time it proves that we’re all human…even guys” she said with playful gasp as if to say it was some sort of discovery. She laughed a little after that “I guess guys worry about their looks and performance just as much as girls do, if not more” Haley said with a light shrug. She found it interesting that when guys hung out with girls they would always try to play it cool and make it seem as if they have full control of the situation but god forbid they say one wrong thing or playfully get called out on something; because then they acted as if they dropped the ball at a big important game or something. Haley embarrassed herself quite a few times when she was out, whether it was some slow moments, lightly tripping over her foot, loosing her balance, etc…But at the end of it all, she just laughed it off and kept going. Haley casually looked around the café once more before looking back over to Seb. A part of her couldn’t deny he was ridiculously good looking, but the other part of her told her that pursuing anything might be a bad idea.
Focus Haley she thought to herself as Seb laughed at her comment about MTV. Although MTV has lost its interest, other shows and sitcoms have also been into lessening censorship. The only reason why it bugged her was because it made younger kids think that what they saw on TV was ok and then you have young girls running off with boys, getting pregnant and then panicking not knowing what to do. It was a shame, but it was life, and it never came easy. The whole number comment threw Haley for a loop, not to say guys never asked for her number, but because she thought he would ask for it later before they parted ways. And to be quite honest, Seb was the first guy Haley caught herself not feeling awkward or bored with due to the fact that her friends tried setting her up with other guys since her ex. She shook her head lightly “you don’t have to apologize, I just have the impolite tendency to call things out like I see them, it’s how I was raised, but you’re fine” she said assuring him with an apologetic smile.
Haley wasn’t necessarily blowing him off, she, in all fairness, might give Seb her number at the end. However, she didn’t want to give it out so soon, they haven’t even gotten their food yet so there was no point to rush anything. She still felt as if she had much more to learn about Seb to make sure he wasn’t a crazy stalker or a psycho, and so far he was in the clear. Hearing his words made Hales feel even more horrible noting that probably felt blown off. “I know, and I will take your suggestion into more consideration after I’ve had my breakfast, deal?” she said with a small smirk turning the tense air around and making it pleasant again. She laughed a little when he questioned her ‘crickets’ comment. “yeah it was said if someone said a bad joke or something, I forgot where I first saw or heard about it though” she said trying to quickly think back….nope nothing. “Oh yeah, I completely forgot about tumbleweed” Haley responded with a light laugh. Well it was definitely Haley’s turn to be corny and Seb immediately called her out on it, “I told you it would be sooner than later before I slipped up” she said with a light laugh realizing that what she did say was pretty bad.
“Yeah probably not, I took the early morning classes so I could work the afternoon and night shifts at my job” she nodded placing her hands on the table. Haley laughed a little at his reaction to her major and minor, something she got quite often. “Yeah, I’m a pretty random person, I know” she said with a smile. No one asked Haley which she preferred though, they figured dancing was something she enjoyed as a small hobby but preferred being a manger of a business or something. She looked up at him and smiled a little, “Dance, I’ve been doing it since I was a little girl and haven’t stopped. I wanted to pursue it as a career, but being an only child I…..it’s a lot of pressure to know that I will have to take care of my parents sooner or later and they never believed that dancing could really pay off, so I took business and now they’re happy” she said with a light nod looking at Seb then out the window, extremely surprised she let all of that information out. What was that all about she thought to herself wanting to bury her face in her hands, but she didn’t.
Haley smiled a little when he said it paid off “Well I guess I have something to look forward too as well when I graduate” she said looking back at him. The ‘cute’ comment was lame, but Haley was just trying to go for some conversation. Middle name? she thought, she was curious but she didn’t want to ask any personal questions this early in the game. “Oh, ok” was all she responded with followed by a light nod. She cocked her head back a little when he found out she believed his relationship with his coworker, she couldn’t help but laugh a little. The next part, Haley wasn’t expecting at all. Her eyes widened a little, and once again you put your foot in your mouth, go haley she thought to herself. She was about to say something but Seb kept apologizing. She put her hand up quickly closing her eyes “No, I’m sorry” she said putting her hand down. “It was rude and stupid of me to question you, I’m just used to guys saying everything they possibly can to get me in bed, I shouldn’t have grouped you in the same category.” She said with a gentle smile looking down a little before the waitress came up with their food.
She smiled a little when he complimented his coffee. Fighting off a laugh Haley took a sip of her drink as well. When she heard Seb’s next question, she almost choked as she tried to swallow it, not making a big scene or anything. “Um no he wouldn’t, because I….don’t have a boyfriend” she said looking up at him then picked up her fork and began to eat her food hoping he wouldn’t ask her of her previous boyfriend.

Seb raised an eyebrow as he contemplated Haley’s analogy. He liked this girl she was smart, and not like the usual girls he bumped into. He frowned slightly and then opened his mouth a little in mock shock. ”Guys are human? You gotta be kidding me… I thought we were some sort of… alien!” He joked in a serious tone, before a smile cracked across his lips. He nodded as she confirmed guys were insecure; he knew he was but it was good that she generalised it. ”Yeah… definitely. But girls can definitely get away with more… and it’s seen as being cute. But guys… they are just seen as morons or jerks…” He suggested shrugging his shoulders. Of course every guy wanted to be seen as cool when they were hanging out with girls, whether it be just as friends or on a date. It was perhaps not macho to be made a fool of; but completely different and acceptable if you were with a group of guys. It was funny how society had sculpted people.
He glanced around the busy café, he enjoyed the atmosphere on a morning, and he often forgot about it. Working late nights often only made you aware of the people and evening societal values; all which were different late at night. It seemed all the vermin crawled out from the woodworks at night, and that the city was tainted in a dark shadow of alcohol induced crime and mayhem. Even Seb had a different character at night… it was definitely why he should make the effort to be awake when the sun was just coming up. He focused on their conversation and smiled playfully as she explained herself. ”It’s better to be honest. Least people know where they stand with you.” He suggested his fingers running across the handle of the metal fork in front of him. He had issues with honesty, ever since his ex-girlfriend almost fiancé had lied to him, and he’d found out she was actually a lesbian. It was rare he trusted what girls said. Least Haley didn’t seem like that from first impressions.
Seb was rarely blown off by girls. Owning in a bar definitely had it’s perks, and he was sure that more often than not women wanted to go out with him because they thought he had a lot of money opposed to the fact that he was a nice guy. It wasn’t common knowledge that his bar wasn’t doing too well; but that was because he was back filling his profits with easy money from an illegal sideline business… drugs. It sickened him to think about it, because he knew if it all came to light… he’d lose everything. His business and most likely his family; whom he was on tender hooks with anyway. He nodded and smiled lightly. ”Yeah sure, but don’t feel you have to… and don’t give me a fake number because that just sucks…” He smirked playfully shrugging his shoulders. He wasn’t expecting her to give him a fake number, but he knew some girls did it as a joke because they didn’t have the guts to say no. It just wasn’t right. She spoke of the crickets and laughed, he returned the laugh as she agreed she’d been corny. ”I actually like the crickets thing… it’s cool…” He told her as he considered whether or not he’d ever use the term.
Seb listened to her reasons for taking the early classes, ”Nice… do you like working in the restaurant?” He asked her curiously. ”I’ve been once or twice not for a long time; but it was nice. Busy.” He told her, not sure if it was still busy, it seemed lots of places were becoming quieter these days, that wasn’t to say the restaurant was. It was one of the best places to go in the city; he knew that much. He cocked his head to the side as she told him she was a random person. ”I disagree; I think you have diverse interests… makes you interesting.” He told her as he leaned forward slightly to hear her reasons. He smiled as she told him she loved to dance. He nodded knowing the feeling about parental pressure. He laughed slightly and shook his head. ”That sounds too familiar… I wanted to play professional football; my parents wanted me to go into law like the rest of the family. But I was determined to prove them wrong. Then a freak motorbike accident destroyed my leg and my chance at a career; so they pushed for law, but I pushed for business… they still aren’t impressed.” He smirked laughing slightly although he knew it really wasn’t funny. In fact the memories of the crash, many operations and the year and a half of rehab still pained him. Not that he’d admit that to a complete stranger.
Haley smiled and he nodded, hoping she’d be at least more successful than him. Success was an illusion; and in some respects he was successful but in other aspects he saw himself as a failure. But those were things a psychologist would be interested in, not a girl he’d bumped into in the street. He had expected a lot of questions about his first name and when they didn’t come he was somewhat relieved. He didn’t really like to tell a lot of people his first name because in his mind it was quite feminine. The conversation took a turn for the worst and he could tell they both felt awkward but he just ran a hand through his hair as she apologised, raising and then setting her hand down. ”Don’t apologise… it wasn’t rude or stupid… I guess it’s just getting to know each other right?” He smiled and shrugged his shoulders, there was no point in getting awkward. ”It’s just a sore point… I went to propose and caught her in a sticky situation with her best friend… or lover.” He smirked slightly and laughed at his own stupidity. Something he was getting better at doing, ”It happened when I was at high school so I should really get over it.” He smiled at her as she told him she’d grouped him into the same category as every other guy. ”If I wanted to sleep with you, I wouldn’t have brought you for breakfast… I’d have just told you… there’s no point in beating round the bush… but I’m not that type of guy… that’s not to say I don’t find you attractive; anyone with eyes can see your gorgeous… but I don’t hump and dump.” He explained wanting her to understand him for some reason.
Their food arrived, and he began to tuck in. He asked her about her boyfriend and she denied having one, which was something that he was pleased about. ”Good… I mean, I am surprised. But I guess it means we can be friends right? If I haven’t already freaked you out too much.” He smiled genuinely as he continued to eat.

_______________________________________ Haley let out a smirk when Seb started talking and couldn’t help but laugh at his sarcastic comment. She secretly hoped he wouldn’t take what she said personal or to the heart. “I know right” she said giving a mock shock look as well “I was just as surprised as you are when I found out…..I thought maybe you guys knew an extremely talented makeup designer to hide your alien ears and green face” Hales continued as she let out another small laugh. It seemed like Haley would be doing a lot of it throughout breakfast with both of their senses of humors. It was interesting how Haley and this semi-stranger got along so well, it was unfortunate they never crossed paths at NYU but at least they met now and were able to hang out and get to know each other better. She nodded at Seb’s conclusion about guys and girls humiliating themselves “yeah, I guess that is true in some cases, I just see it as a good excuse to laugh off an awkward situation” she said with a light shrug as she combed her hair back with her fingers because it was getting in her face. Hales saw Seb’s coworker eyeing them again and she wanted to laugh a little, but Seb would probably think she was some sort of nut job for laughing for no reason so she shifted her eyes back to him.
While Seb glanced around the café, Haley took the opportunity to glance at him. Sure she knew it was a little rude to stare but how could she not? Seb was definitely a sight to see, her eyes trailed down from his brown short-length hair down to his furry eyebrows continuing down his breathtaking blue eyes and finally reaching down to his full sized lips. Had they met sometime in high school, perhaps they would have been better acquainted, but now things were a lot different, Haley was a lot different. He was a nice guy so far, but she was still guarded….afraid that just like before, things could take a turn for the worst, if anything were to happen between them that is. She looked out the window again seeing the Manhattan crowd walk through the sidewalks rushing to get somewhere. It eased her mind knowing that she doubted she’d ever be one of them because she preferred slowing things down and actually enjoy every minute of life, or at least try too. Her attention went back to Seb as he spoke and she nodded, completely agreeing with him, “Yeah, I’m not a really big fan of liars either” she said with a genuine smile.
Haley wished things were as easy as they were back in high school. You give a guy you meet your number and if he starts to annoy you or creep you out you would just ignore him or block his number; but with Haley’s guard up, she was a little….afraid to even think about making another mistake with another guy. If Haley got a dollar for every guy that tried to come on to her….she may not be a millionaire but she would have a decent amount of savings. All she really wanted was for someone to be upfront and honest with her, as well as take care of her, properly. Her ex used to be honest with her, a little too honest at that, just thinking about it made Haley’s heart beat a little faster, something she has yet to find a cure to control. She got distracted by Seb’s comment about the fake number and couldn’t help but laugh. “I think I’m mature enough to either give you my real number or simply say no, if I were a high school girl then maybe I would consider the fake number an option” she said with a slight smirk. “But just to kill my curiosity, have YOU ever received a fake number?” she asked curiously. Haley couldn’t really think of why most girls wouldn’t give Seb their number, he was definitely attractive and a gentleman so for all she knew girls probably threw their numbers out to him left and right.
Haley smiled at Seb’s compliment of the cricket joke “of course you do” she said giving off a proud face, trying to hold in a laugh. It feels really good to laugh again she thought to herself as Seb lined up his next question. “It is a nice restaurant, don’t get me wrong, but we frequently get the kinds of people with money who think that they can treat servers however they want just because of how much they spend…” she started as she leaned back on her chair a little “Those people are usually extremely arrogant and make a big scene at a tiny mistake, so it can get annoying at times, but it pays the bills” she said with a light shrug. “Other than that it’s not so bad” she said lightly shaking her head. Her head stopped shaking at Seb’s compliment. Her cheeks felt a little flushed and she hoped he didn’t notice, maybe her makeup might hide it but Haley smiled a little “well thanks for that” she said meaning it. Good thing the topics kept rolling so Haley’s focus could move on from his blindsided comment to his accident and their parents. “Accident? Wow I’m really sorry to hear that” she said about to place one of her hands on his by some sort of impulse but instead moved it back to tuck some hair behind her ear. “at least you were able to survive it, right?” she said with a genuine smile. “For me it’s hard going against my parents’ will sometimes because that means doing something that might not make me happy, but then again I think of what they had to sacrifice raising me which I’m sure they weren’t so happy about either, so I try not to complain or argue with them about it and just do what I can”.
Haley loved her parents, a lot, she just wished that they saw things from her perspective at times. Success for Haley wasn’t always about how much money you made and how much of it you could spend. For Haley, success was being able to look at yourself in the mirror and be proud of the person you’ve become as you made your way to a job you really loved and would even do for free. For Haley it was better to love what you do even though you may not make a six-figure salary, than to dread going to work every morning only looking forward to the money you were going to make. Her parents wanted her to make a lot of money because they grew up with so little of it. When the conversation shifted gears all Haley could do really was nod, it was a part of Seb’s past and only he could really have an opinion about it. “Yeah, getting to know a stranger is never easy” she said with a light laugh followed by a shrug. “I’m sorry about you ex though, it does hurt when the person who you thought you loved so much didn’t really love you the way you wanted them too” she stated, a part of it referring to her ex as well. “But it was her loss, so far from what I know about you, you seem like a really great guy, I guess she just didn’t know how to appreciate you” Hales finished off with another smile.
Her cheeks flushed a little again when Seb called her gorgeous. Compliments in her past relationship became less and less common making Haley feel inferior at times. “I believe you Seb, and I appreciate your honesty, you’ll just have to forgive me for being so awkward and weird about this, I haven’t dated in a while either, I, like you, have sworn off guys for a while too” she said with a nod before taking a bite of her food, maybe saying that wasn’t the best thing, but if he was being honest, Haley would be too. She couldn’t help but smile and laugh a little at his ‘surprised’ comment and him ‘freaking her out’. “Of course we can be friends, we get along quite well so it would be dumb not to be, and I thought I was the one that was freaking you out, for the record” she said with a smirk. Haley lifted her cup and swallowed her chewed food. “a toast to a new friendship” Hales said to Seb, it might have been a little corny, but she didn’t care.

This girl was funny, she could laugh at herself, and she had no qualms about laughing about other people and their terrible jokes. It was refreshing and so different from the whole host of girls he spoke to when he worked in the bar. ”Well, if we had make up artists to make us look this good; you girls would be coming to us for tips!” He smirked, he hadn’t worn make up in his life and he certainly wasn’t about to start. He liked the fact that Haley didn’t wear obviously too much make up; it was subtle; natural looking which was just the way he liked his girls. He nodded in agreement to her statement. She made sense too, a girl who made him laugh, she was pretty and he actually enjoyed talking to her; this was a first in some time.
He smiled in agreement. He hated liars; he was reluctant to trust people and so the fact that he was being so open with Haley concerned him. Things seemed to fit so easily into place with the brunette, and it was either too close for comfort or maybe he was just slightly optimistic. He hadn’t been on a date in some time and while the thought of it was exciting, the actual reality of it was somewhat terrifying. Not that this was a date; in fact it was simply two strangers exchanging words over breakfast; he was sure that they would remain strangers for much longer. Their meeting was definitely going well.
Seb laughed slightly and nodded, ”Well that’s nice to know.” He had little idea why Haley seemed to be somewhat cautious, but it wasn’t his place to ask; after all he’d only just met her and it really wouldn’t be right to pry. She asked him about a fake number and he laughed. ”No, but I’ve given fake numbers out…” He smirked playfully. ”I work in a bar right; most girls who try to chat me up, have had too many to drink and are painfully wasted making a fool out of themselves. Some of them get rowdy and request phone numbers and things… I usually pretend I cant remember mind, and give it a guess. It works a treat because they usually leave with a smile on their face. I get business and left alone. Works both ways.” he smirked; so he knew it was a bit cruel but when you worked in a bar when alcohol was the main source of profit; he didn’t want to upset the regulars; nor did he want anyone tracking him down. He was a relatively private guy with strong opinions which he was sometimes reluctant to share.
Seb couldn’t help but smile; her smile was contagious; and she looked incredibly beautiful. He listened to her and nodded in agreement. ”Yeah that sucks. Rich people suck.” He told her smiling, not divulging the fact that he had a lot of money, then wondered if she did so he rephrased it, as to not to offend her. ”Well not all of them; just people who look down their crooked noses at people who are doing a decent days work.” He smiled as she shrugged, ”Least you don’t spend your mornings cleaning lipstick off the mirrors in the women’s toilets.” He laughed slightly shrugging his own shoulders. She blushed slightly at his compliment which he thought was cute. It was nice to see girls weren’t so far up their own ass they couldn’t accept a compliment. He smiled as she apologised for his accident. ”Don’t be sorry; it was years ago. I guess it was partly my own fault.” He told her as he thought back to the accident. He smiled at her and nodded, as she indicated he was alive. Definitely. He listened to her story about her parents. It was all too familiar but at least it sounded like she got on with her parents which was always good. ”Yeah? I guess you’ll get through college and then be able to pursue your own happiness once you’ve achieved theirs…?” He suggested, asking a somewhat rhetorical question.
Seb nodded as he agreed with her. ”Yeah I know… I guess she didn’t want to tell anyone she was into chicks.” He advised her, a smirk on his face. Back in high school guys joked about finding their girlfriend with another girl. It hadn’t been the reality when it had happened to him. It had been his worst nightmare. He sensed from what she said she was also missing an ex who had perhaps hurt her. He couldn’t tell too well because she hadn’t been specific but nevertheless he could tell something wasn’t quite right with Haley, maybe that she was hiding something. He’d probably have to get to know her a lot better before he had a chance to ask her. He smiled and nodded as she told him that he was a great guy. ”Thanks… first time I’ve heard that in a long time. But thanks, you seem like a really great girl.” He returned the compliment and smiled. He was impressed by her honesty as she began to open up a little bit and he smiled. ”Really? That sucks… well it’s definitely his loss.” Seb told her honestly. He was enjoying her company more and more. A small laugh escaped his lips as she confirmed they could be friends and raised her cup in a toast. ”A toast… cheers.” He smiled clinking his cup against hers as he laughed.
