and it's the thousandth time and it's evenbolder don't be surprised when you get bent over, he told ya that you were gonna get it• • • • • • "Ding, ding, ding." The warning bell blasted through the school's PA system above Olivia's head as she walked to her fourth period class. She wouldn't be late, she still had a whole minute and she was barely half a hall down from her class room. Being a cheerleader came with a whole lot of stereotypes - most of which Liv held up to: the bitchy attitude despite her friendliness as a person, the sleeping around, the fantastic athleticism and passion she brought to the team, the trendy clothes, et cetera, et cetera. But some things were purely her own like her sense of fashion, her dedication to her job / internship and desire to have a successful future, and her love of a few things about school; her fourth period being one of them. Psychology was Olivia's favorite class by far. It was also her back up plan to be a child psychologist if her career as a jewelry designer didn't work out. Of course, she'd study both in college to keep everything fresh in her mind.
Being a jewelry designer was a dream of Olivia's since she was around eight years old and got her first kit of friendship beads and string which she, of course, shared with her best friend Brooke and they wore their matching bracelets all the way through elementary school. By that time though, she'd moved on to bigger and different styles; trying to replicate things she saw in magazines or in store fronts. In middle school though, she began babysitting for her neighbors and found that she loved working with children and enjoyed actually helping them solve problems or put band-aids over scraped knees and telling them that it would be okay. "If only band-aids fixed everything nowadays" she thought to herself as she took her seat in the second row of desks, third from the front. Maybe ten seconds later, the actual bell rang, making Olivia happy she'd made it on time to another class. Usually her math teacher held them over to pass back papers and all the kids who came from Mr. Peterson's calculus class just said "Mr. Pete" and the teachers understood. Seriously, this man was in his 80s and was stuck in his old ways. No amount of student or teacher complaints could change that.
Truth be told, even though her fourth period psychology class was her favorite, the teacher, Dr. Mills, took a long time to get to the point of the lesson. During this time Olivia usually took out some goldfish she'd packed in a ziplock bag and began to eat her snack until the lesson started, then she took notes like a good little student should. So today was like any other day, eating her goldfish when the words "Partner Project for this Six Weeks" caught her ears. Now she was interested in whatever Dr. Mills was talking about. Surely it was going to be another short assignment that he just gave them a whole bunch of time to do and things would go as procedure. Liv would pick Kelly, a fellow cheerleader, and they'd do it the night before and still make an A. Simple as that. Except for one small detail: Dr. Mills also said they'd be drawing names for partners and this was counting as a test grade, not just a daily paper. She began drumming her fingernails anxiously on the desk until her name was called. He was calling people up at random, so it was impossible to predict who was the next victim. Cautiously, Liv straightened up and walked toward her teacher holding an old plastic top hat of a sort. 'please be kelly, please be kelly...' she chanted over and over again in her mind before drawing a small slip of paper about two inches long with one name printed in a clean, legible font. "Uhm...Nolan Lewis...?"

Nolan had just rushed from Calculus to Psychology, one of his favorite periods of the day. This was because he enjoyed the subject since it discussed the human mind and how it works. The topic was always appealing to Nolan, and he so recently visited the library to learn more about all different sorts of personality and mood disorders. As he speed walked to the class, right as he passed through the doorframe, he heard the minute bell ring loudly of the PA system. He was typically at all of his classes by the minute bell, well, expect for P.E. He liked to stall during that one. There were a few not so friendly faces in already seated, so Nolan took his spot towards the front at an empty desk. He pulled out his psychology book from his heavy backpack, and waited for class to begin. A few more students shuffled in, and he watched emotionlessly. That is, until one student, dressed in bright red, walked through the door. He stiffened at the sight of Olivia Nichols, his long time secretive crush. They had never spoken; he would surely remember if they had. Nolan wasn't exactly why Olivia was so appealing to him. Her beauty, sure, but it wasn't just that. Her whole personality some how intrigued him. She stood out, but in a good, fashionable way. She was bold and fearless, and somehow that was incredibly attractive. Of course, she was way out of his league, and he knew it.
Nolan Lewis was a nerd, and he was well aware of that fact. He presented himself in a rather nerdy fashion too. Today wasn't too bad, he was wearing a simple maroon long sleeved shirt and a brown tshirt underneath. Still, his curly brown hair and geekish stack of books helped increase his nerdiness. Sometimes he just wished he could be, well, normal. Normal straight hair, normal cool designer clothes, and normal slacker studying habits. Maybe that way he could talk to Olivia without feeling like such a loser. Sadly, Nolan knew it wasn't in the future, and he told himself he shouldn't have to change. He was a good person, and that was all that mattered, right? He stared blankly at Dr. Mills. He was a middle-aged man that liked to babble. During that time, Nolan often read up on the chapter himself. He found that he got more work done that way than listening to the lengthy lecture.
Today, Dr. Mills was droning on about a project. He would be assigning the partners at random and the students would have to work with one another for six weeks. It was a dreadfully long time if you got the wrong partner. He glanced around the room and saw that most of the students looked bored, Olivia included. She was munching on some goldfish, and before he got caught staring, he turned back forward. He listened patiently, and waited for his name to be called to go up and draw, but it wasn't. Dr. Mills called Olivia up, and he tried not to stare as she walked forward to pick her lucky partner. He averted his eyes back down to the psychology book, and waited for her voice to call out a name. 'Um, Nolan Lewis?' His eyes widened and his head shot up. He looked blankly at her before saying a little too loudly, "Me?!" Flushing a red brighter than her shirt, he stared helplessly at his desk. How could he be assigned to be partners with Olivia? What cruel mistake was this!? He was sure to make a complete idiot of himself! Awkwardly, he raised his head back up, face still burning, and he said shakily, "Erm, that's me…"

and it's the thousandth time and it's evenbolder don't be surprised when you get bent over, he told ya that you were gonna get it• • • • • • And suddenly there were setbacks in Olivia's backup future plan. She knew that within every field, even jewelry design, there would be some weird people she'd have to work with eventually. Especially since psychology fell under the 'science' category of basic college applications, there were DEFINITELY going to be some creepy nerds or sociopaths who were all going to be attracted to her. Because, let's face it - honestly, there weren't very many people from her social background or high school status going into science majors or minors for possible careers. Liv was young, beautiful, talented, and everything almost every guy in the entire school wanted. She knew that she was beautiful and knew how to use that to her advantage; she did it every weekend. Not to mention that even though she was smart, she didn't associate herself with people who were open about it. It was an obvious point that she kept her grades above the passing level to stay on the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, especially CO-captain, but not everyone knew how far above a 70 she actually was - mostly A's with a few B's.
Back to the subject of nerds, Olivia didn't like them too much. Sure she was nice to them but she wasn't totally 'in sync' with their whole mentality. There were quite a few of them in her psychology class to deal with but Liv usually ignored their questions because sometimes the way they were worded confused her and then all of a sudden she was failing tests because she misinterpreted a question someone asked. Therefore she just did her own studying for Dr. Mills' class and did just fine. She was totally ready for the AP test coming up in the Spring and would earn credit to help her take less classes in college because she 'already knew the material' which for her was actually true. Liv was smart, she kept her grades up, and was getting the hell out of high school as fast as she could. Maybe, and hopefully, to Columbus or NYU. But there was no way she'd EVER be a nerd.
Whoever this Nolan kid was seemed way to excited. Ah, another one of the "Olivia Nichols' unofficial fan club members". In all honesty, he just radiated nerd...and teddy bear. He was cute in the 'i want to pinch your cheek and give you an action figure' sort of way. "Yeah, I kinda got that the first time..."Olivia said with a smile, trying to sound sarcastic to cover up the stinging hateful tone of her voice that accidentally slipped. Usually she was pretty good about that though, so hopefully nobody caught that. As soon as she handed Dr. Mills the piece of paper with Nolan's name on it, she walked back to her seat, listening to the click of her little red flats as she did so. When all the names had been called, she grabbed her journal, her favorite purple pen, and walked over to the empty desk behind Nolan while everyone else was moving around. Their assignment was to pinpoint the part of the brain affected by a certain disease or physical happening like a stroke or something like that. "So do you have any ideas? I mean, like what brain malfunction we should do?" She asked him, quietly enough to be heard, but so that not the rest of the class would hear them. After all, she was still getting funny looks from Kelly who (lucky for her) ended up with Alex Mueller, half back on the football team. Somehow Liv was going to get through this project alive, somehow...
