‘Alright Jake. . .this is it. You are going to ask her out, and you aren’t going to back out.’ Jake told himself as he looked in the mirror that hung inside his bathroom. Jake placed one hand on the wall right beside the mirror and pointed at the reflection of himself before speaking. “Don’t freak out and don’t you back out, just ask her and see what happens.” He reminded himself before nodding at to his reflection; then dropping his hands. Jake reached over to grab his bottle of cologne. He gave himself two squirts, then placed it back on the counter next to the faucet handle. He took in a deep breath and tried to calm down his racing nerves.
Jake, still studying himself in the mirror; fixed his collar on his shirt. He folded it under then he reached down to roll the sleeves up to the crook of his arm. He finished in the bathroom after brushing his hair to the side, and then made his way out to his bedroom. Jake grabbed his blue converse shoes and slipped them on before tying his shoelaces. Jake grabbed a black belt and slipped it through the dark blue jeans he was wearing.
Jake grabbed his car keys, cell phone and wallet. He put his cell phone in his left jean pocket, then put his wallet in the back right pocket. Jake grabbed two blankets and the picnic basket that was inside Jake’s fridge in the kitchen. He held the keys on his index finger, twirling them as he made his way out of the house, turning to lock his apartment after doing so.
He scanned the street and waved to his neighbor who was mowing his small lawn; like he always did on the weekends. In New York City, the buildings are so close together you really only had a patch of grass that was no bigger than the Four-Square square you’d get when you played that elementary school game; but still, that didn’t stop his sixty-something year old neighbor from mowing it every weekend. Rain, sleet, snow or humid; he was out there, mowing. They said friendly hellos before Jake walked half a block to the parking garage where his car was.
Jake unlocked his 1955 red T-Bird and placed all the items in the trunk before he climbed inside on the driver side. He checked himself in the mirror then headed down the street. Jake took in a deep breath before pulling into a small parking lot and jogging into the flower shop. He had called in early, asking for a bouquet of pink roses. He thanked the old lady who gave him a smile before speaking. “She’s a lucky gal.” Jake blushed, thanking her for the compliment and paying for the flowers before heading out.
Jake climbed into the car and put the bouquet beside him on the passenger seat. They were wrapped in a big pink bow with a white ribbon also wrapped around it in another smaller bow, the little curled strings of the ribbons curled. He sighed as he came to Candice’s place and he bit his lip worriedly. ‘Alright buddy. This is it. ‘ He thought to himself before turning off his car and making his way up to the building. He swallowed back his fear as much as he could and knocked on the door. .

__________________________________________ It was around 6 o’clock when Candice started to get ready to go out with Jake. School that week had been extremely tiring so she had taken a small nap before getting ready just so she wouldn’t look too tired or bored and make Jake think she wasn’t having a good time. Candice looked at her closet and pouted her lips a little thinking on what she should wear. She wasn’t sure if she should be dressy or casual. Hmmm she thought to herself as she took a look at some outfits and things. I think casual would probably be best she thought to herself as she pulled out some items from her closet and set them on her bed.
Candice grabbed a towel from her dresser and walked into the shower and less than half an hour later she came out feeling incredibly refreshed. It was almost seven and realizing that Jake would be there within the next hour made Candice a little…..nervous. She had heard that he liked her, had a crush on her, etc…. but then again, they were in high school and people loved to gossip and make things up for their own entertainment. The last conversation on IM made Candice doubt all feelings because of the whole Luke issue. It seemed as if perhaps Candice wasn’t good enough for Jake, so perhaps they would remain friends instead of anything possibly happening between them.
After getting dressed Candice sat in front of her mirror and looked at her hair, she personally preferred it straight so she pulled out her iron from her drawer and started touching it up. Then came her accessories (earrings and necklace) and then her shoes. When she was zipping them up, she had heard a knock on the door. Candice looked over at the clock and her eyes widened a little when it said 8. Time really flies when I’m getting ready she thought to herself. Candice grabbed her black bag and headed downstairs. On her way to get the door, Candice tried to pick up the pace so Jake wouldn’t be standing out there too long.
Instead her clumsy self stumbled with her heeled boots and almost fell but regained balance. Nice Candice, real nice she thought as she took one more look at the mirror. Candice faced the door and turned the knob gently opening it seeing Jake standing there looking good as usual. “Hey there” she said with a smile seeing Jake look up to meet eyes with her. “Ready to go?” she asked taking one step out before closing her door. Tonight felt like it would be a good night.tagged: Becca/Jake Words:442 Outfit: click!Notes: Can't wait!

“Hey Candice.” Jake replied after her greeting, smiling happily but still nervously. He held out the flowers to her, his hand shaking in fear; he hoped she didn’t notice though. “Th-these are for you.” He explained to her quickly, hoping she didn’t think it was cliché that he had gotten her flowers or anything. Jake bit the inside of his lip in a nervous habit as he waited for her to respond.
Jake looked at her outfit and smiled inwardly at the sight. She was really pretty, always was. Tonight was no exception. She always seemed to pull off any look, whether it was casual or fancy; she looked amazing in anything. He blushed a bit, when he realized he was starring at her. He hoped she hadn’t noticed and if she did notice, he hoped she didn’t think he was being a pervert or anything. He looked down at his shoes, blushing; not sure what to do now.
Jake looked up after he composed himself and spoke once more. “You look really nice tonight Candice.” He complimented her honestly, the pink blushing coming to his face as he spoke softly. He ran a hand through his hair in a nervous habit, waiting to see how she would react and what exactly she would say. Was nice not a good enough adjective? Should he have used the word great? Pretty? He didn’t know and he was worried that to Candice, his compliment wasn’t really a compliment because he had just used the word nice.
When she asked if he was ready to go, he quickly nodded and motioned for her to walk towards the car first. “Yeps, if you are.” He answered her, walking beside her towards the car. He unlocked the 1955 T-Bird and opened the passenger side door for her and made a sweeping motion towards the seat with his hand. “Ladies first.” He said with a cute grin as she climbed inside. Once she was in safely he closed the door and made his way around the back of the car. He slid into the driver seat and started the car after buckling his seat belt.
Jake pulled away from her place and headed down the street towards Central Park. He bit on his lip in a nervous habit, not sure what to say or do. Was this awkward? He felt awkward . . . did she? Should he say something? “How was school this past week?” Jake finally croaked out nervously, not sure what else to talk about. ‘Great now she is going to think you are lame for asking about school.’ Jake told himself harshly inside his own mind.
They made it to the park and Jake found a parking lot before shutting off the engine and un-buckling his seat. He got out of the car and opened the passenger side door for her. He helped her out of the car then walked around to the back and opened up the trunk. He grabbed two blankets and the picnic basket before closing it and tilting his head towards a pathway that lead into the park. “C’mon, we are eating this way.” He explained with a sweet smile. He walked down the path beside her and stopped beside a horse drawn carriage. The man took the picnic basket and the blankets, putting them beside himself on the ‘driver’s’ seat. Jake helped Candice up into the carriage and slid in beside her. He looked at her as the carriage began to move. He smiled shyly, wondering what she would say or think. He nervously placed his hand on top of hers, hoping she wouldn’t mind him trying to hold her hand.

__________________________________________ Candice smiled about to start walking with Jake to his car when she noticed him pull out some gorgeous pink roses from behind his back. These are for you he said and Candice couldn’t help but grin and was sure she was lightly blushing as her cheeks felt warm all of a sudden. “Aw, thanks Jake, you really didn’t have too” she stated definitely not minding that he did buy her flowers and she softly lifted the roses closer to her nose so she could smell their beauty and elegance. They smell nice she thought to herself looking down at the roses then up at Jake not really noticing him staring, but did notice his light blush.
Candice never minded when Jake blushed, she thought it was kind of adorable but didn’t want to tell him that in fear that he’d feel less manly. Candice smiled as it was her turn to lightly blush as she heard his compliment. “Thanks, I really wasn’t sure what would be appropriate so I just went for casual” she said looking down at her outfit then at him. “But I think you take the cake on appearance tonight” she said with a playful wink meaning that he looked good as well. “Oh, let me put these in water before we go” she said opening her door again and quickly headed to her kitchen.
Seconds later she was back and closed her door as her and Jake walked to the car together. “So how’ve you been?” she asked as they walked down her driveway and Jake, of course, opened the car door for her and she couldn’t help but smile “why thank you” she said with a light laugh as she got in the car and put her seatbelt on. As they began to drive Candice looked out the window loving the night scenery in Manhattan then she turned her head to Jake as he spoke. She was a little surprised that he knew what was on her mind, or at least it was a coincidence that he knew.
“School…..” she started “it’s been a little stressful trying to keep up with all the assignments but I’ve been trying to manage” she said with a slight nod. “What about you?” she asked not wanting to go into full detail herself. As they arrived to the park Candice wasn’t too sure what Jake had planned but she was sure it would be fun. As she saw him pull out a picnic basket she let out a small grin and followed him “Ok” she responded as he directed her to their destination. I’ve never had a picnic before she thought to herself as she was a little excited.
She thought it cute but no one ever did it for her. They walked a little bit until Candice saw the carriage and Jake headed towards it “You didn’t…..” she said a little more surprised and taken back as she stopped dead in her tracks. Candice couldn’t believe it hadn’t even been an hour into their…date?...and Jake was doing all of this. She smiled and laughed a little as she walked with Jake into the carriage and took her seat. This was definitely something new to her and it was definitely exciting. Candice looked around as the carriage started and felt someone’s hand on hers and looked down seeing Jake’s hand. She looked up at him and smiled as she slid her fingers into his and scooted a little closer enjoying their night thus far….

‘You take the cake on appearance tonight.’ He smiled at her compliment and blushed slightly before murmuring a sweet [/b] “Thank you.” [/b] He ran a hand nervously down the front of his shirt, hoping to get out any wrinkles that were still there. “I’ve been good. Busy, with classes and volunteering at the hospital. But good.” Jake answered her question with a smile. He smiled at her thank you as she slid into the car. While they drove Candice talked about being stressed by school and all that. “Well, if you ever need help with school; like tutoring, just let me know. Just not math. I’m horrible at math. English and Science are my best. So if you need help with those, I’ll be more than happy to help.” He offered sweetly to her, meaning every word. “Me? Oh school is fine. Same ol’ same ol’. I’m starting to look into colleges, I know it’s early; but I want to start getting an idea of where I want to apply to. And work on my college entrance essay. Do you know where you wanna go after next year?” Jake asked her curiously, wondering if she knew what she wanted to do with her life after high school. Jake smiled at her reaction when she saw the horse drawn carriage. “I did.” He said with a smile and playful nudge as they walked up to the carriage. While sitting in the carriage Jake had placed his hand on top of hers, hoping she wouldn’t mind. Turned out, she didn’t. She intertwined their fingers together and even scooter closer to him, making Jake’s heart race and his face turn pink from blush. They rode like that for about thirty minutes, just sitting beside one another; enjoy each other’s presence. The carriage came to a stop by a pond and a small grass area with a large willow tree. Jake hoped out of the carriage and helped her out, holding her hand. He thanked the driver, paid him and then grabbed the blankets and the basket. Jake led her away from the carriage and towards the tree that sat beside the pond. He laid down the blanket down under the tree and then motioned for her to sit down. He opened the basket and pulled out two small candles, lighting them he set them down on either side of the blanket. He smiled up at her as he pulled out two wine glasses and a bottle of Sparkling Cider. “I figured since we are underage, we should stick with this.” He told her sweetly before pouring her some into her glass. He pulled out two glass plates and the silverware that was needed. Jake pulled out a plate that had freshly cooked salmon sitting on it, still steaming from the oven that he had cooked them on. He then pulled out a green salad he had made with raspberry vinaigrette dressing that he had made. He then pulled out a container with mashed potatoes he had also made. “We said we would go and get seafood on our next date . . . so I thought I’d make us some seafood for this date.” He said sweetly as he served her first then himself once he was done. He looked at her shyly, smiling sweetly as he admired her. He knew that Luke had been good to her in the beginning, but then things went downhill from there. He wasn’t sure what had exactly happened, but he knew that Candice didn’t deserve to be hurt. Candice was amazing and Jake wanted her to never forget that. Jake wanted to show her that there was a guy who really cared about her, a guy who wanted to be with her. A guy who wouldn’t leave her. Jake was that guy and he wanted her to know that he was always going to be there for her. He cared about her, and he wasn’t going to hurt her. Ever. [/blockquote] TAGGED. Candice and Jake OUTFIT. “You’re welcome” she said in reply to his thanking her for complimenting his appearance. Jake was always so polite about everything that Candice loved it. As they were walking and talking, Candice looked over at Jake not being able to keep her eyes off of him. He was one of the good looking guys at the school who never gloated about it or acted differently because of it. It was something that Candice definitely admired about him. Plenty of girls would throw themselves at him knowing the kind of person he was, but he never took the bait, and that’s something that not most guys could say.
“Being good is..well…good” she said In response to how he was doing. That’s great Candice, real smooth she thought to herself hating her answer. “It’s nice that you volunteer at the hospital though on your free time, not many people can say that” she said with a soft smile. “Thanks for the offer, and yeah math for me is pretty easy, it’s the other stuff you have to think deep in, but I think I just have to study more” she said with a light laugh. “It’s never too early to look” she said shaking her head. “If you know what you want to do, then might as well start going for it” Candice responded looking over at him with a small smile.
“Me….” she started “….I really don’t know yet. I don’t know if I’m going to stay here or go out of state or what I want to major in, I don’t know what I’m really good at” she said with a shrug. I should probably go out of state so I’m away from my father……but I don’t want to leave my mother she thought to herself. “I can’t believe it” she said with a small laughed as they entered the carriage. “I’ve never been on one of these before, I’ve only seen them in movies and when other people go on them….thank you” she said with a grin when they got accommodated.
Candice enjoyed the beautiful scenery as they reached their stop and got out around the pond. Candice observed as Jake set everything up and smiled when she bent down to sit on the blanket. “I love sparkling cider so I don’t mind at all” she said with a small giggle. Candice was underage, but that didn’t stop her from drinking at parties or elsewhere and yes it was bad, but she had been used to it already. Jake pulled out the food and Candice loved it as well. “You pay attention to detail so well, I can’t believe you remembered” she said with a grin. Jake was baffling her left and right, she definitely felt appreciated and was happy that the two started hanging out more often…

Jake chuckled softly at Candice’s response. Being good is…well…good.’ She was always so adorable. He gave her a sweet smile, hoping she didn’t think he was laughing at her because he thought she was stupid or anything. “Ah, well there ‘ya go. You help me with math and I’ll help you with the thinking deep part.” He offered with a shrug of his shoulders, then realizing how that might sound he apologized. “I don’t mean it like you can’t think deep. I mean it like, for writing. Some people just aren’t good at writing, that’s all. I didn’t mean anything rude by it. I know you are smart and obviously can think if you are good at math.” Jake tried to recover, blushing at his mistake; hoping she wasn’t mad. “I’m debating on in state or out of state too. But for you, a good place to start is not necessarily what you’re good at. But something you’d love to do every day. Like, for me; I love to write and act, but I know those won’t pay very well. But I love kids and I have . . . an interest in cardiology. . .” He trailed off, realizing he had come so close to telling her about his defect; which was the main reason he wanted to become a pediatric cardiologist. “So a pediatric cardiologist would be great for me. But you’re different. Maybe something with music. Being a choir teacher, or working as a sound technician in a musical.” He suggested with a shrug, going off of the fact that she liked to sing. “But if the time comes and you still don’t know, go to community college. It’s cheaper so you don’t spend a lot of money while you change from major to major. Then once you find out, go to a university.” Jake gave her a tip with a smile. “I’m going to community for the first two years, to get my pre-reqs out of the way for cheap.” He explained to her. ‘And because it’s smaller so if I got sick and miss a lot of school my teachers would be more understanding.’ He thought to himself. “I’ve never been on one either, so I’m excited to see how it goes.” He told her with a smile. Then he realized that could sound like he was talking about going on a date in general. “In a horse drawn carriage I mean.” He clarified for her, wondering if she would think he was weird or stupid for never being on a date before.
“I remember stuff that are important to me, and you’re important to me.” He said with a cute smirk as he closed the basket lid and scooted closer to her. He blushed a bit at his own words, but hoped she liked them. It was true too. He gave her a cute grin before cutting his salmon into small pieces then taking a small bite, chewing and swallowing. “I hope you like it. I never made salmon before, so I kind of just winged it.” He confessed with a soft chuckle. The salmon had a pink tint to it and had a lemon glaze over the top of it. He had mixed together lemon, olive oil, white wine, parsley (finely chopped), chopped scallions, and gloved garlic, peeled and chopped. Then he stirred it, heated it up then poured it over the top of the cooked fish. It gave it a sweet taste with a bit of a kick to it from the small bit of garlic. He hoped she liked it.
