Shane woke up early that morning, very unhappy. He let his eyes trace the patterns on his ceiling from when he was a little kid. They were the patterns of different plays and he knew exactly which lines represented him because those lines were always red. He missed the times that him and his dad laid on the floor and learned the plays that way. Now it was over because Shane had been the one who caused his dad's suicide with a damn car. That suicide note sat in the bottom of his closet. He'd never shown his mother and he never got it back out to read it. For some reason, Shane couldn't bring himself to throw the stupid piece of paper away because it was almost the only thing Shane had left of his father. He let his mind wander away from his recently dead father and sat up in bed, the blankets still covering his lower half. He sighed and ran his hand backward through his shaggy brown hair. He closed his eyes and stretched his arms towards the ceiling. He had school today not that was anything new. He didn't particularly like Belmont but he had to deal with it if he wanted to keep playing football. He was tired of seeing --- Cooper giving him accusing looks and checking to see if he was showing any interest in girls. Shane wasn't big on girls other than for sex now... He just didn't care to have a girlfriend because he was afraid of getting too close and then losing them like what had happened with his father.
Shane Xzavier Moore uncovered his lower half and rolled his legs over the edge of his bed before standing up. He stretched one more time and then went through his closet looking for something to wear. His rough hands landed on a plain t-shirt and he grabbed a pair of faded jeans with some random belt. He didn't care too much about what he wore anymore. He used to make sure that he wore just the right thing but he barely even looked at what he wore anymore. He slipped his clothing on over his plain boxers and swung his arms, trying to wake himself up. He shook his head slightly, getting his shaggy hair out of his face and walked to his bathroom and found a comb to tame his hair. He combed it out and then went to eat breakfast and brush his teeth after. He then went to his room and stuffed his school folder in his plain black backpack. He didn't bother grabbing his textbooks. Shane would tell the teachers he'd "forgotten" them. He put his Nikes on and then headed out of his house after grabbing his keys. He climbed in his truck and started the engine, letting it roar. He headed to school, putting on the gas even without a seat belt. His dad would kill him if he were here, but he wasn't, so it didn't matter anymore.
Shane made it to school and went through his classes, getting chastised for not bringing his books to class. He sighed unhappily with the teachers and spent his time making paper airplanes in math and doodling through English. He didn't bother to speak in Spanish and he didn't bother to pay attention in Science. He DID try his absolute best in Power Lifting and Gym. That was a lot of fun but he didn't care about the rest of his classes. The homework was pretty easy so he didn't bother to pay attention in class. Finally, school was over and he headed to the locker room and switched to a pair of shorts and Nike running shoes. He was told by his coach that he needed to do personal running just because of his position in football. He didn't put his shirt on because he'd get too hot and headed out to the track. He jogged around once, stretched, and then did some real running. Sweat poured down his body and even though it was already October, he was already tired. It was his birthday month, meaning he'd turn 18 and his dad was going to miss it. It was going to be the first birthday that Dayton Moore was going to miss Shane Moore's birthday because Dayton was dead. Shane pulled a face, trying not to think about it. Dayton was the one thing that made Shane really mad and made him run faster.
Shane made an odd growling noise when memories of his dad filled his mind. It got to the point that he was distracted and suddenly he was falling towards the track. He fell face first and sighed. His face was all scraped up along with his hands and knees. He rolled over and jumped back up. Where he was scraped, he stung. He ran over to his water bottle and chugged some and then used some to clean the scrapes so they didn't get infected. Shane felt a bead of blood roll down to his chin from his forehead where he'd gotten the most scraped up and just put his chin up a little. He wasn't going inside until his personal running was over. Then he could go home. For now, his tired body was just going to have to wait.

The alarm buzzed at 6:30am waking Candice up to go to school. Ugh just five more minutes pleeeeeeease she thought to herself as she pressed the snooze button ceasing the incredibly annoying sound. Candice sighed rolling around her bed trying to regain the little bit of sleep she had left, but it didn’t work. Instead Candice sat up and stretched her body extending her arms and letting out a yawn. She dreaded the process for waking up to go to school but it was one of the few things that kept her out of the house for a decent amount of time so she wouldn’t have to deal with her life at home.
At around 7 Candice was ready and coming down the stairs. She saw her mom sitting by the kitchen table with a cup of coffee in hand. “where’s dad?” Candice asked her mom as she opened the fridge pulling out a water bottle. He had an early meeting to go too her mom responded not looking at Candice in the eyes. Candice rolled her eyes meeting my ass she thought to herself as she closed the fridge and picked up her bag “see you later mom” she said before walking out of her house and towards her car.
Lying asshole she thought to herself as she got into her car. A few years back, Candice accidentally came across some open emails on her dads account from different women stating how much they cared, and how much fun they had etc…It was the first time she found out her dad was cheating and since then has felt that he was still cheating when he would leave early or come home extremely late. Candice sighed as she made her way to school not really wanting to go anymore, she knew she wouldn’t be able to focus. The entire school day seemed to be going by extremely slow
When the last bell rang Candice sighed a breath of relief as she put her books in her bag and stood up exiting the class. Candice walked slowly towards her car passing the track softly singing a song she had began to write”
“But you can’t hold on to water, It fills you up but never stays, It’s only good to wash away today, and your loving me like water, you’re slipping through my fingers touch, Natural disaster love, Bringing on the flood, the flood, Love me like a flood, the flood, Bring it on….”
As she was signing she looked around the lot and the track when she saw Shane running, pretty fast if she said so herself. Candice had met Shane through other friends and last saw him at a party where they both had a little too much to drink and almost hooked up, but Candice left knowing that perhaps it wasn’t the best thing to do. She heard his dad died and figured that he was acting out to hide the pain?
Speaking of pain, Candice looked back over to Shane and all of a sudden saw him on the floor face first. Ouch she thought to herself as she made a cringing face knowing that fall must have hurt. She changed her direction and headed towards him to make sure he was all right. When she was closer she spoke. “hey shane, you okay?” she asked only a few feet away and noticed the scrapes. Guess not she thought as she peeked in her tote and pulled out some Kleenex “maybe this will help a little?” she said reaching it out to him. Shane wasn’t a bad guy and Candice knew that, he just had problems like everyone else….

Shane Xzavier Moore was one screwed up kid. It may have not seemed like it, because he kept up a reputation, but he was. He was mad all the time, had a temper that was like a wild fire, once started, it was hard to get rid of. Mostly he lost his temper with himself and inanimate objects but there were times he lost it with people. He tried not to let that happen often but he rarely kept his temper under control with his mother, who was already dating three months after Dayton's death. It drove Shane up the wall and it made him mad that his mother got over his father so easily. Dayton and his mother had been quite a pair and even Shane could see that they truly loved each other.... Or so it seemed. Obviously his mother didn't care too much about Dayton, because she already had a new boyfriend named Harvey. Shane hated Harvey; Harvey was intruding on his life and the guy acted like he wasn't. Harvey acted like Shane was just a cute little kid that could be calmed with a lollipop. Harvey had actually given Shane a candy cane trying to get Shane to stop shoving him out of the house. That hadn't worked well; the seventeen-year-old had just punched his mom's boyfriend in the face and told him to get the HELL out. Harvey had left so it was all win for Shane.
Shane had a facade up that he was happy but his true unhappiness was bleeding through right now. He was hoping to be alone to run in peace but.... Candice had shown up. He turned away from her, not wanting her to see what had happened to his face but she obviously caught it. How unfortunate. He hated breaking down in front of people and he'd broken in front of Candice. That was just fantastic. That was something Jacob Ransom was supposed to do, not the great Shane Moore. Shane was supposed to hold his reputation of being super happy even after his dad's supposed car accident. He never broke in front of people because it killed his rep and he didn't want it killed. Yes, he still cared about his rep but his reputation was a little different from before his father committed suicide. Now he was wreckless and a big-time hotshot when he tried. He looked at Candice and took the tissue, wiping his face, replying, "Thanks... It'll help a little I guess." Candice wasn't a bad person; she'd just turned Shane down when he wanted to get laid. That had made him unhappy.
Shane looked away from Candice awkwardly but then looked back. "So what you out here for?" He gave her a half smile. Just 'cause he'd been dealt a serious blow to his ego, didn't mean he had to be rude. There was nothing to be rude about in the first place. "And um.... Sorry you had to see me like that..."

Candice sometimes enjoyed taking the long way to where she needed to go at times because it was nice just walking and taking in some fresh air. She really couldn’t remember the last time she took a bus or walked to school or did something like that because she’s had a car since she was 16 and before that her dad’s chauffer took her everywhere she needed to go. God forbid she tell her parents she didn’t want the chauffer to take her anywhere because then they’d tell her how she was fortunate to have the family she did where they never had to starve, or take a public bus or things like that.
It’s not like I ever asked for it was what she thought every time they got into an argument about the topic. I never asked for any of it. Candice’s father was one of the scumbags who was the main breadwinner of the house and did as he pleased because ‘he made the most money and paid all the bills, etc, etc…’ therefore had an excuse to pork around with other women other than her mother. It made Candice sick to her stomach about it which is why she was never in a big rush to go home like half of the school’s population, hence why she took the longer way to the parking lot by the track rather than follow the crazy ambush of teenagers that headed towards the front of the school where the buses picked them up.
Candice has done this a few times but today wasn’t like the others, today she crossed paths with a friend who she hasn’t really seen in a while, Shane, but it obviously wasn’t a good time judging by his minor accident. Candice did pause before walking up to him figuring that he would be slightly embarrassed if anyone did catch his fall, but then she saw a little blood and figured she could get him a tissue or something to….help? “Yeah I’m sorry, I know it’s not much, but it’s the only thing I have…I usually carry more if I have a cold or something but unfortunately I’m pretty healthy at the moment” she said jokingly to try to ease the tension. Candice could tell she was probably one of the last people Shane wanted to see seeing as how she didn’t finish what they both started at a previous party. This only confirmed it when he looked away awkwardly and Candice got the hint and was about to walk away and say bye but then he looked back and began to speak again. “Oh…um I was just walking to my car and preferred taking this way rather than the more crowded way to the front of the building like everyone else is doing” she said with a slight nod and laugh
“I would ask you the same thing, but I think I already have my answer” she said teasing just a little. Candice never enjoyed seeing other in emotional or physical pain so regardless of the person, she always tried to cheer them up. But when Shane apologized for ‘seeing him like this’ it made Candice raise an eyebrow. “You’re apologizing for you accidentally falling and me casually walking by? Yeah…” she said nodding a little as if she came to a conclusion “…you must have hit your head pretty hard back there” she said joking at his ridiculous apology. Hopefully this was making Shane feel a little better……
