Seb pushed the wad of cash, conspicuously across the table, towards the tall balding man. He glanced around; his blue eyes skating from table to table to ensure no one was watching the exchange. He muttered a few words to the stranger. This still felt uncomfortable, after all this time. Desperate times called for desperate measures, and this was about as desperate as the business graduate could get. He nodded silently as the man told him a few things about the package he was about to receive. Small beads of dew formed on his brow. It was extra hot in here, or maybe Seb’s warm palms were to do with the fact he was doing something he shouldn’t.
The feeling of being watched, was more prominent than ever. He glanced around the coffee shop again. Despite being in the corner of the coffee shop, and not seeing anyone directly watching him, Seb was convinced someone was watching his every move. He allowed his hand to reach for the warm cup of coffee, his fingers spreading across the white and green mug; enjoying the feeling of having something to do. On command, Seb reached under the table and retrieved an envelope. He didn’t have time or the bravery to check its contents, because he needed to disappear. He needed the dealer to disappear.
Clumsily Seb squashed the envelope into the pocket of his hoody. It crunched loudly against the fabric of his hooded top. The man nodded, and the two shook hands. The balding man stood from his seat and silently left the coffee shop, leaving Seb alone with an envelope full of pills. His heart pound against his chest as he silently tried to make the ground swallow him up. His breathing was calm but deep and controlled. Maybe too controlled. He was getting used to the way this activity made him feel. It wasn’t a good feeling; but the fact that he knew money would come in thick and fast; it was reassuring.
He began to relax, and took a drink from his luke warm coffee. The tepid liquid washing his mouth with a putrid taste. He grimaced and pushed the cup away from him. Seb turned in his seat and was about to go and get another drink when he spotted a younger male in the coffee shop, and he could have sworn the boy was staring at him. Without thinking about it, Seb let his impulsive nature get the better of him.
Standing up quickly, he moved over to the boys table a little hastily. Without thinking Seb took a seat, and rested one of his hands on the back of the chair; the other on the table. He leaned towards the male somewhat antagonistically and narrowed his brow. His blue eyes searching the boy for some sign that he hadn’t been seen, but Seb had to push the buttons, he had to find out. ”What did you see?” He asked, his voice pressing, his volume low as he focused directly at the male. He needed an answer, and he wouldn’t settle for a simple response.
