The past couple weeks had been a blur to Mason. There were so many mixed emotions running threw his body that steered him into many different directions. There seemed to be a never ending stream of unfortunate events flowing threw his life. Mason wasn’t quite sure what to do anymore. His soul had already been in a bad place. One filled with grief and guilt. There wasn’t even the slightest chance the teenage boy had overcome the death of his twin brother. Yes he liked to pretend it didn’t bother him but even as Mas took in his new surroundings, his new home, his new life, he couldn’t get over the past. Instead he drowned himself in his own sorrows by turning to alcohol. It helped ease the pain caused by the death of his brother, by his breakup with Jenna, and now the complications he had with his new girl friend Emily.
As he took a shot from the patron bottle he had opened earlier, Mason considered why he was so star-struck over the girl. She was stubborn, independent, controlling, emotionally detached (for the most part). Why would he want to be with a girl who didn’t even want a relationship. Their paths crossed by the simple fact that they were fellow students who chose to have sex for the hell of it. Also because Mason was drunk, broken, and looking for a good time. But their no strings attached relationship rolled on and he couldn’t help but fall for Emily. They were a lot similar than presumed. They both had hurtful pasts, gone threw traumatic events, they had similar tastes, they liked to have a good time, but most of all they both loved each other. The chemistry was natural. “And theres a reason for everything right?” Mas spoke to himself as he laid on his bed. The alcohol was starting to sooth his senses, making every muscle in his body relax.
He had been on high tension and stress since his girl friend, whom had taken forever to actually consider being with him, admitted that she was pregnant. And not only that but also that the baby may not have been his. Oh boy. Mason could recall the very moment she had told him and it had felt as though someone had punched him straight in the gut. He could possibly handle being a teen father assuming that he would stay with Emily but if the baby wasn’t his, it would be hard accept. That one day was a mix of unpredictable events. Maybe she wanted him to react differently to the news but he never imagined a right hook in his face. The bruise left on his cheek reminded him of the many different words, both good and bad, that had been exchanged. Mas deserved to be hit. He had said some nasty things he never meant to say but in the moment he couldn’t control himself. No matter how many times he apologized, the regret would never go away. Emily had needed him the most that day and instead he practically walked away from her. Which he did, leaving her in the park but she didn’t want him there. She didn’t want a ride. She didn’t want help. And at the time he wasn’t sure if she wanted a relationship anymore.
So Mason had gone home. Left Emily to be and hadn’t really spoken to her since. Which led him to this moment. For the past few weeks Mas wanted to contact her. Talk to her. But he was afraid nothing had changed from that day. There was also the fear of what the DNA results would turn out to be. There was no plausible way Mason could let that go. Not only was his girlfriend (?) possibly pregnant with someone else’s baby but that of a guy he had no liking for. It was messy, dramatic, and something that he really didn’t want a part of. Which was why he kept to himself. Mason focused on school and football but when he received a voicemail from Emily about news, he knew that the results were in. It took him a few days to actually respond. It took him till this very moment when he decided to text her and ask to come over. He wanted to clear the air so there was no more tension between them and he wanted to know who the father was, knowing he could possibly get his heart broken yet again.
What few weeks he took to himself, Mason grew accustom to the thought of being a father. He wanted the baby to be his. He wanted to be with Emily. But at the same time he couldn’t get his hopes up. For that reason, Mas had turned to his favorite beverage. Patron eased his emotions and prepared him for any unexpected ones to come. He wasn’t close to drunk but he could feel the affects of a buzz. When Emily agreed to his company, Mas threw on a clean shirt and walked about fifteen minutes to her place. He wasn’t that intoxicated to alter his driving habits but he didn’t want to take the chance. He also unwilling left the bottle at his house so Em wouldn’t know he had been drinking. He stashed a piece of gum in his mouth to cover the alcohol smell. Mason stood before her front door for a few minutes, hesitant to knock. When she opened the door, she was not going to open it for him but for the many possible outcomes to this day. Knock, knock.

It had been twenty days since Emily had seen or heard anything from Mason. Twenty days since their fight at the park, twenty days since she had hit him, and twenty days since he had drove away, leaving her all alone at her request. The last three weeks (almost) had been miserable for Emily. If she wasn’t crying on Brooke’s shoulder, she was staring at the bottles of alcohol in her home, wishing that the baby didn’t exist so that she could run away from her crumbling reality, shot after miserable shot. Emily really didn’t feel like she had anything left to live for, aside from the small life growing inside of her. Mason was gone, her mother was upset with her for that, Luke had a new girlfriend who liked to consume a lot of his time, and Brooke was busy with school. No one was there to go to the doctors with Emily when she got the paternity results back and no one was there to celebrate with her about them.
Emily found out who the father was ten days ago and he wasn’t even around to hear the news. Emily couldn’t blame him, though. Never in a million years would Emily have imagined that she would have ever hit Mason. In her heart, she wanted to blame the outburst on the surge of hormones that were raging through her body but if she did that, she would be setting her child, their child, up for resentment and she just couldn’t do that. She wouldn’t do that anymore than she would allow anything bad to happen to this baby. Twelve weeks old and this baby had already changed her, softened her, made her more loving, and all she wanted was for Mason to be back in her life to see it.
When she made the phone call the other day, she wasn’t surprised that he didn’t answer. If roles were reversed, she probably wouldn’t have answered either. Emily could only imagine the pain Mason was going through. It had taken her fifteen days without him to realize just how badly she hurt him. It didn’t matter if they were dating or not when she slept with Rigg because she had been in love with Mason even then. And Mason knew it. But Emily was stubborn and she wouldn’t allow herself to truly be happy with anyone because she wasn’t sure was true happiness really was. Emily wasn’t sure of really anything anymore.
It was about then that Emily felt the buzzing in her pocket. Pulling back her comforter, she reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. The words ’MR. PERFECT’ flashed across the screen of her phone and her heart instantly fell into her stomach. Mason. Her fingers were urgent as they opened the text and her swollen eyes scanned the blocky letters. It wasn’t until she had read the message over ten different times that she finally allowed herself to breathe again. Of course she would let him come over. Of course she would. Texting him back, she reread his text one more time and tears formed in her eyes. Twenty days and now he was coming over. Now he would see how much she loved him. Now he would see that the baby was his and everything would be okay. Right?
A heavy sigh left her lips as she closed her eyes for a moment in an attempt to slow down the thoughts that were frantically racing through her head. The same level of fear was there and as much as she wanted to be hopeful that he would come over, find out that the baby was his, and fall in love with her all over again, she didn’t have the strength inside of her allow her thoughts to go that far. Emily knew it was a big step for him to want to come over in the first place, after completely ignoring her existence for almost three weeks, but she couldn’t have been happier. Maybe things between her and Mason would never be perfect, never be simple but she knew she would always love him. No one had worked so hard to earn her love before and now that she had given it to him, there really was no way for her to take it back. And she never wanted to, either.
She was still sitting on the couch with her eyes closed and her fingers clinging to her cell phone when she heard the soft knocking on the door. Pushing the comforter off of her even more, she stood up. Instantly, Emily regretted her outfit. She was wearing a pair of Mason’s boxers and one of his dark green tshirts. She felt stupid and if she opened the door like that, Mason was certain to think that she was some obsessed, immature girl and he would probably turn around and leave without even hearing her out. ”Uh…hang on a second..” She yelled at the door before bolting down the hallway to her bedroom. She was quick to strip her body of his clothes and stash them in her hamper before picking up a pair of black pj shorts from the floor and slipping into them. Her abdomen was still tight and her six pack was still visible but you could see the twelve week old bump protruding from her abdomen just enough to cause her clothes to pull a little.
Fumbling through a pile of clothes on the floor, Emily pulled on a plain white tank top that didn’t match her black bra but she just didn’t care anymore. Returning to the front door, she sucked in a large breath before she pulled it open. Her eyes tried to avoid his as long as they could while she took in his presence. Mason was still just as beautiful to her as he always had been. After a moment of just staring at his chest, she swallowed down her nerves and began to speak. ”Come in.”Was all she managed to say. Glancing down at the floor, she backed up enough to allow him inside, hopeful that he would oblige.

Mason’s heart was beating with extreme speed. He was nervous about what would come out of this get together but he was also anxious to see Emily. For almost three weeks he had been avoiding her in any way possible. Ignoring her text messages and phone calls. Slipping out a class a few minutes early in hopes of lowering his chances of running into her in the hallways. It was pathetic. He was looking for the easy way out. He hoped that avoiding her would ease their problems. Maybe they both needed time. Mason knew he definitely needed it. The time spent to himself allowed him to think about all the possibilities. What would happen if the baby wasn’t his; would he stay with Emily? And if he did would he take care of the baby like his own? What if the baby did turn out to be his; how could he plan his life for raising a child? Most importantly how would he tell his parents? Mas could only imagine how his parents would react. Both would be disappointed. One thing kids didn’t want to bestow upon their parents. But he figured his mother would warm up to the idea and he knew she would love Emily. Though his father would most likely only resent Mason more than he already had. Something Mas learned to live with.
That was another topic he considered. If the baby was his, Mason wondered what kind of father he would end like. Definitely not like his father. He never really considered kids for his future but given the circumstances he knew he wanted to be a good one. One that was in his child’s life, for every moment, every birthday, prom, graduation. He wanted to support and love his child like his father never could. He wanted to be bigger and better. Despite being only eighteen years old, Mason knew he would be a great father and some how he would make ends meet to raise a child. Now he just hoped he’d be the lucky guy that matched DNA resemblance with the child that Emily was carrying inside of her. He couldn’t help stand before her door step and hope there was good news behind door number one because there was no other door to go threw.
Mason heard Emily’s voice behind the door, putting more time between actually seeing her again since that day in the park. He took a deep breath in threw the nose and let it out threw his mouth. This could be his get away moment. Turn back now and he wouldn’t have to face the truth. His insides turned. Maybe he didn’t want to hear the news. Only if it was to his benefit. If it wasn’t he didn’t want to hear a word. He didn’t want to think about having to take back all the thought process he had put himself threw. It was too late. Mas had convinced himself that he wanted to be the father. He had to be the father. He wasn’t sure what would happen if he wasn’t. His head said ‘run’ but his feet stayed firm on the concrete as the door before him open and the image of girl friend came into view. He wasn’t even sure if he could consider her his girl friend anymore. He hadn’t spoken to her in over two weeks. That was rough on a relationship but nothing could get worse now. Right?
“Hey…” He forced a soft smile and attempted to look into her eyes but she avoided it. Without control his focus went straight to her belly. To any onlookers, Em didn’t look pregnant. She wasn’t far into the pregnancy to show but with what she was wearing, and knowing every curve of her body Mason could see the small pump forming on her abdomen. This was far from pretend. This was real and scary. He let out the breath he had been holding in and shoot his eyes away from her stomach as she motioned him in. He made sure to keep his distance just incase any alcohol odor was present on him. His hands were stuffed into his pockets as he entered to the apartment. Memories flashed threw his mind. The great times they had in her place. It was bittersweet. “Look Em…” Mason started, facing her. This was going to happen where he wanted it to or not. “I’m sorry I haven’t called. I just..” He bit down on his lower lip knowing no excuse could make up for ignoring her. “I just didn’t know what to do…I needed time to think.” He admitted looking to the ground. “I’m sorry.” He apologized again but no just for dodging her but for the things he said that day at the park. For forcing her into the relationship and for possibly getting her pregnant.

Seeing him stand in front of her brought back a wave of emotion that clearly reflected how she had been feeling for the last three weeks. Abandoned. When Emily was the most vulnerable, the most open and the most in need of his support, he ran away. Emily wanted to be angry with him. She wanted to yell at him and push him and tell him to leave her alone but she just couldn’t. How could she blame him for running away from her mistake? She didn’t want him to reject her again but the longer he was there, the more her walls would crumble down and the more vulnerable she would be once again. Maybe things would never be ‘stable’ between Mason and Emily, but why did it feel like everything came crashing down around them all the time? For the most part, Emily felt like she deserved all the badness that manifested in her life but even though she was upset with Mason, she knew he didn’t deserve any of it.
Once she found enough courage to look at his face, her eyes immediately zeroed in on the spot below his left eye where the skin was still lightly bruised. The reminder was like a stab in the chest and she felt horrible and guilty all over again, but she wouldn’t cry in front of him anymore. She had spent the last three weeks wearing his clothing and moping around her empty house because she had fucked up. She would never blame him for leaving her but she would blame him for coming back. If he was planning on leaving again, she wouldn’t have any other choice than to hate him for giving her hope and then breaking her again.
Emily watched his eyes as they darted to her stomach and her hand covered it protectively as though his eyes might hurt their child. She sighed, reminded of why he was here in the first place and a stab of fear began to seep through her. Turning towards the kitchen, she lifted a large envelope from the counter and slowly made her way back to face him. Inside the envelope were the results that were either going to make or break them as a couple. Emily knew he was the father and she had even relieved Rigg of any fear the moment she found out, but Mason might have changed his mind over these last few weeks and maybe he didn’t want to have a child with Emily anymore. Maybe he had fallen out of love with her in the last twenty days? Just thinking about how he might react caused her walls to shoot up, possibly higher than they had ever been around him because she wasn’t just protecting herself now, she was protecting her baby.
Hearing his words, Emily just shrugged. For the first time since she met Mason, she felt completely detached from him. Emily blamed herself for the entire situation but with his absence came the need to justify his actions. Maybe he did need time to think over things but why had he avoided her for this long? What was he running away from? How was that fair to her? And now that she knew the baby was 100% his, how was that fair for him, either? He had yet to see the image of their child via sonogram, he had yet to experience Emily’s severe morning sickness for it had gotten much worse since he’s been gone, and he’s missed out on getting the results with her. The results that she was holding in her hand at that very moment.
Finally allowing her eyes to meet his, she offered him the envelope. She wanted to speak but she was completely lost for words. What was there to say? She wanted to apologize to him for being so horrible and she wanted to accept that everything was okay but what if everything he had said about wanting to be the father was just a lie? What if he didn’t really want the kid and what if he ran when he found out that it was his? Emily wasn’t sure if she could handle that. Emily’s eyes were red and swollen as they stared, emotionless, into his. ”Open it.” She demanded, signaling towards the envelope. ”I figured you should open it before you get comfortable. At least if we’re still standing, it’ll make it easier for you leave.” Her words were not intended to come out so harshly but she didn’t try to cover them up. Maybe Mason would just stop caring for her altogether if she was distant from him.

All the natural and exciting emotions that caused Mason to fall for Emily were slowly creeping their way back to overcome him. The sensations were unfathomable, at first. He didn’t know he could feel so strongly for someone that came into his life by mere coincidence. It was unexpected. It was unexplained. And it was unbelievable. He would have been smart to take the easy way out. To shadow his emotions and keep their relationship simple with casual hook-ups. But why would Mason ever want to get rid of the amazing feelings he was having with the girl? Yes, she was stubborn and difficult and they probably fought more than anything. But just being alone with her, whether it be making love or talking, made up for all the bad. Mas constantly found himself fighting for their relationship that was far from perfect but it made him happy. That’s all that matter right?
Standing before Emily, he wanted to wrap his arms around her. Kiss her. Hug her. And rewind back to the great times when there was no complications. Unfortunately life didn’t have a universal remote. He couldn’t go back and he certainly couldn’t erase any of his mistakes. As Mason watched her movements his heart sunk, realizing she was not feeling the same sparks. Maybe distancing himself made the relationship worse. Maybe he had used up his last straw causing Em to lose all hope. It was wrong for him to walk but could she really blame him? He loved her. He always had and always will but he wasn’t receiving the same vibe from her. He should have seen this coming. Mas had only set himself up for the heart break. He should have backed off when Emily first rejected his relationship proposal. Looking back to the day he had given her an ultimatum between having a relationship or nothing at all. He had been standing in the very room as Emily distanced herself, no surprise, in the kitchen. He should have walked out of the apartment. Maybe if he had he wouldn’t be feeling the hurt from everything.
Be as it may, Mason chose not to reveal his disappointment. Even as waved off his apology with no response at all. He kept his eyes locked on her as she retrieve an envelope from the kitchen counter. There were a few hesitant moments before he took the results that she had offered him. He stared down, afraid to reopen the information. She had already broken the seal. Why couldn’t she just tell him herself? Does this mean it was bad? Was he not the father? There were no hints on her emotionless face. “Only you‘d assume.” He stared back, angry that she was acting this was. How could she not show any sign of emotion? Was she that angry at him? But this wasn’t the time to get side tracked. Mason’s main purpose for coming was to find out if he was the father of her baby. His heart felt as though it would burst from his chest. Would there be relieving or disappointing news? He fumbled his fingers along the outside of the envelope and teased the lining of the seal before he opened it. He reached his large, bulky fingers inside and clasped them over a thing piece of paper. Mas closed his eyes, took a deep breath and pulled it out. His eyelids fought to stay shut. It was now or never.
He skimmed the words within the document, only glimpsing at the intellectual words that made no sense to him. He stopped at the sentence that meant the most. Mason Brooks is not excluded as the biological father of Emily Armstrong’s fetus. Not excluded? Meaning he was the father? Meaning he shares paternity results with the baby? He had to reread the line several times to make sure he was reading it right. “It is mine…” Mas spoke softly. He was relieved. Hell, he was ecstatic but kept his eyes on the paper, not sure what type of expression was one Emily’s face. Or even if it had changed at all. His face began to feel warm and he found himself fighting back tears. He was happy. He would actually be a father and to the child that was growing inside his girl friends belly. That was if they were still together.
Finally Mason gave in and looked up at Emily. “It’s mine…” He repeated. “And yours.” He allowed a soft smile to form across his lips. “Aren’t you happy?” He questioned, still unsure for why she was being so distant at the moment. He assumed she would be most pleased out of anyone.

Nothing had been easy for Mason and Emily. When they met, they agreed to just be hook-up buddies. There was an instant, severe attraction between the two of them and they both knew that they wanted each other physically but one night, their fun turned in to something much more powerful than either of them had expected. Emily would never forget the way she felt that night that she looked up into his blue eyes and realized that she loved him. She couldn’t admit it to him, she wouldn’t, and she didn’t for a long time, but she felt it and it was the most powerful feeling she had ever experienced. Since then, her feelings for him had only intensified to the point where Emily knew that she wouldn’t ever be able to love someone else the same way that she loved Mason. It didn’t matter that they only ever fought and argued about stupid things because those moments in between arguing, when it was just real Mason and real Emily, she felt perfect.
Facing him, waiting for his reaction as he read the results sent her mind into a fury of memories about the two of them. The night she fell in love with him, the night he confessed his love to her, the night he made her decide, the night outside of Brooke’s apartment, the morning after she told him she loved him for the first time…how it felt to say it and actually mean it. Emily remembered all of it and as much as every single ounce of her body wanted to be prepared for him to leave her, she couldn’t control how this felt in her chest. Emily was in love with Mason and they were going to have a baby. She was happy, but she was also scared.
Emily’s eyes watched his actions cautiously as he pulled the results from the envelope. Emily wanted to think that Mason still loved her and still wanted to be with her and would be excited about them having a baby together, but she couldn’t fight off the fear that was weighing her down. It was like she was carrying the entire situation on her shoulders and her back was about to break. Mason was going to make an amazing father. Even if he chose not to be an active part of their childs life, the baby would still belong to him. The baby would have his eyes….his hair…maybe even his nose. Maybe it would have his laugh or show all of its emotions through its eyes. Emily would look at it every day and think about how lucky she was to have it, even if she didn’t have Mason.
Tears began rimming her eyes as an overwhelming sense of longing overcame her. Emily wanted Mason to still love her. She wanted him to still want to be with her. She wanted him to want this baby. Emily was able to hold back her tears until he began to speak. It is our baby, I am happy, she wanted to shout but there was a lump in her throat and she couldn’t speak. When he lifted his beautiful eyes to meet hers, she nodded and more tears poured from her eyes. Why did she always cry in front of him! Moving her hands frantically across her cheeks, she tried to clean up the moisture that was still dripping from her eyes.
When he smiled, a spark of hope ignited inside of her and before she would allow herself to second guess anything or to close down again, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, needing the comfort of his body against hers. Emily was terrified that he was going to pull away but rather than close up and shut down, she cried into his chest. ”We can do this…” She cried, not even caring how desperate she sounded or how badly her tears were soaking his shirt. ”We can figure this out…we can be happy….just….just..please don’t leave me…I need you….” Her voice was high pitched and staggered and her fingers clung to his shirt like she was afraid the floor was going to fall away below her. Maybe Mason didn’t want to be with her anymore, maybe he no longer loved her but she wasn’t going to push him away this time. She had spent the last three weeks trying to figure out how she would react if he came to see her and all she wanted was for him to stay.
Burying her head in his chest, Emily leaned in to him even more, her tears still frantic. ”Please Mason….don’t go…”

Mason couldn’t help but feel the way he had for Emily. She was an unexpected event in his life. Neither of them anticipated what they had gotten themselves into the first night they had sex. It was all fun and games until someone fell for the other. Of course, it had to have been him. Normally it was reversed. Back in his home town, Mas adapted to messing around with girls and having them fall for him. At which case he would run from the situation and move on. Love wasn’t something he really desired in his life. The eighteen year old boy just wanted to have fun. Been there and done that. Mason spent most of his high school years screwing around with alcohol and the opposite sex. He really didn’t care about anyone other than himself. But life was unexpected. At any moment in time something or someone could change a person’s perspective on life. For Mas, there was two he could vividly recall at the moment. One having been the night his twin brother Caleb died. It was then did Mason realize that not everything was about him. That there were more important things in life. The second would be the moment Emily walked into his life. She made all the emotional pain he had slowly disappear and without even trying. Em made him realize that even with all the screwed up things in life there were always others to out weight them. She made him fall in love.
Even if he had wanted to be mad at Emily for sleeping with Rigg, Mason couldn’t Not right now. Not when the news was revealed that the baby was his. If it had been the other way around he’d be infuriated. He’d have a reason to. The fact that Em had slept with someone else, whether they had been together or not, was now pushed aside. But on the flip side, he was still concerned about her intentions. They whole reason she slept with Rigg was due to the feud she had with Jenna. He understood that she was frightened of getting hurt. Worried that he would leave for his ex, whom was the first girl he’d ever loved. There would always be lingering feelings but they weren’t even close to comparing the feelings he had for Emily. He wasn’t sure how many times he would have to prove to her that he wasn’t leaving. It was that lingering problem that made him question their relationship but there was no turning back now. Even if he could, Mason didn’t want to.
Reading that single piece of paper was like reading the climax of every book. He wasn’t one for novels but he was smart enough to pay attention in school. The climax was the moment where the most important event of the story occurred. It would be the deciding factor that would guide the story into it’s conclusion. For Mason, finding out he was going to be a father was definitely the deciding factor of his life. While most guys his age would run for the hills, he stayed perfectly calm. In fact he was happy. He wouldn’t admit this to Emily but his first thought was that the baby would be like having a piece of his brother again. Obviously it wasn’t Caleb’s child but the brothers shared identical DNA which meant the baby would have half. So in a sense it was like having his brother. It was a strange thought but it made Mas realize this was no joke. All of it was very real and it was meant to happen.
He wrapped his built arms around her tiny frame and held her close with extreme intensity. It was the first time he had held her in over two weeks. There was no doubt that he missed the feeling. “Emily I’m not going anywhere.” Mason assured her as she wept into his torso. “Everything is going to be ok.” He ran his rand threw her hair and brought his lips to her forehead. He hated himself for putting her threw what he had. He didn’t deserve this, especially after ignoring her for three weeks. He left her when she needed him the most and he felt like a complete ass. “I’m sorry Em.” He placed his finger at the tip of her chin and raised her face so he was looking into her eyes. She always said she could read his emotions by looking into his eyes. Mason hoped that she could see how sorry he was, how much he loved her, that the feelings he had from the beginning were still there. “I love you.” Mas caressed her cheek with his hand then brought his lips to hers. He missed the feelings of her lips and the taste of sweet bliss. Mason missed everything about Emily. All he could hope now was they could move on from the past and make everything work.

Emily’s body started trembling when Mason enclosed her in his arms. It was as if the assurance of his body was enough security for her to completely break down. Usually, Emily wasn’t like this. She was private and cautious and hated crying in front of people. She was usually terrified of what they would say and how they would view her but she didn’t care about any of that anymore. She was going to have a baby- Mason’s baby. Just thinking about the possibility of Emily going through this with anyone else was unimaginable. The relationship that Emily and Mason had built together was unsteady, but it was strong. It was stronger than any relationship Em had ever had with another human and that was how she knew that everything was going to be just fine.
Her heartbeat slowed down at the assurance of him not leaving her. Emily had always had abandonment issues, always feared that those closest to her were going to leave. Like Mason. During the course of the last three weeks, Emily had spent all of her free time thinking about how Mason didn’t want to be father and how he obviously didn’t want to be with her. There was one day that Emily sat outside the abortion clinic for three hours while she debated the value of this baby’s life in comparison to the life of hers that would be ruined without Mason as a part of it. She had been destroyed by his absence but more so by the reality that she had been the one to push him away. Emily knew that Mason loved her but her insecurities would be the end of them unless she could find a way to accept his love the way she truly wanted to.
It was hard for Emily to not just hold him and cry but she wanted to be strong. She wanted to tell Mason that she believed what he was saying...that she knew it was true but her mouth couldn’t form the words. Then he kissed her. It felt like her heart was going to fall from the pit of her stomach. Mason’s kisses always made her weak but right now, they made her feel like she was flying. Her skin was tingling and she felt like she might seriously pass out as she pressed her lips against his and kissed him back. Emily would never get tired of kissing mason. His lips molded perfectly against hers but after a few moments, she pulled back and rested her forehead against his.
There were so many thoughts running through her brain that she had no idea where to start. Cautiously, she lifted her eyes to meet his and tried to smile. ”I love you, too…and I’m sorry, too.”Swallowing hard, her tears had calmed down significantly. Closing her eyes, she pulled in a deep breath and moved her hands down to entwine in his. Emily wasn’t sure what to say, what they needed to talk about or if he already knew how she was feeling. Still staring at the floor, she sighed. ”I can’t do this again..” She began after a moment of silence. Turning to face him again, she tried not to allow herself to cry once more. ”I love you and I want you and I want to raise this baby with you..but I won’t be strong enough to deal with anything If you leave again..” It was hard for her to say it but she knew it was truth. Emily loved Mason too much to live without him and she knew she could never successfully raise his child without him. Without Mason, Emily didn’t have much of anything to live for.
Squeezing his hands a bit tighter, she tried to smile again. ”But if you can promise me that we can try and figure this….try and be happy about this…if you can let me love you the way I need to love you…then I think we can make this last…make this real..” Her words were slow and soft and quiet as nerves jolted though her. Emily wanted all of Mason for as long as he would give himself to her and in return, she knew she had already given herself exclusively to him. ”I really do love you….and I want this baby with you…I want a family..”
